Swine flu coverage 11:48pm on 01 Nov 2009 I totally agree with post 83. This is a criminal conspiracy on the part of the Pharmaceutical industry, though I doubt if the politicians are directly involved:they are so scientifically illiterate that they are suckers for anything like this, but of course it helps that they're paying with someone else's money. Far more people will die from the side effects of the vaccines than would have died from swine flu, and many millions across continents will have their immune systems impaired permanently, resulting in huge increases in the incidence of rheumatic ailments, asthma, possibly autism- all grist to the mill of the medical priesthood and their suppliers, of course. Please understand, everyone-it is to the financial advantage of both the medical profession and the pharmaceutical industry to have a chronically sick, totally medicalised population, and we are talking many billions of pounds, euros, dollars or whatever. These people want and need you sick: just think about it-you know it makes sense.

I was not trying to speak for 95% of the population- I personally think it is rubbish,what the rest of the population think is their business, but as a matter of fact, the license payers as a whole are paying for it. How you can construe what I said as trying to speak for the opinions of others just escapes me- back to pedantry class, I suggest.

So I think jon112uk is spot on in assuming that the aptly named Cheekz expects a free house, at Jon112uk's expense.

In the USA, just like everywhere else in the world, if the state wants your property, then it will take it. That is the reality which English law recognises. Americans prefer Fantasy Island to any sort of reality-so dream on, and enjoy your American Dream while you can.
Michael Jackson coverage 09:45am on 08 Jul 2009 The saturation coverage of this by the BBC was a complete farce. Jackson had lots of fans, certainly, and I don't think anyone could say that they haven't been generously catered for,but how about the rest of us? Dare I say the majority of BBC "consumers"? I'm sure it's very nice for lots of BBC staff to have a week or so in the USA,but what about the cost? I too am tempted to put in a FOI request for details of numbers involved and the total cost, but do I have the patience? Probably not. Meanwhile, "real" news coverage was almost extinguished. Please BBC staff, to most of us,Jackson was just a has-been celebrity, grow up and get a sense of proportion.
The public spending debate 4:46pm on 11 Jun 2009 When exactly did the word "investment" replace the word "spending".Anyone remember, or even care? Money is being squirted against the wall, and all we hear from the politicians is that it is "investment". What an abuse of language!The lie is actually built into the words themselves, but not one interviewer (bbc or other) ever asks the person using the word to actually explain how throwing money away is in any sense an investment. Let's double doctors' pay, what a great "investment". Trouble is you get nothing whatsoever in return- some investment!
The public spending debate 08:35am on 11 Jun 2009 Public spending will have to be cut, substantially and quickly, everyone knows that. Why can't we have an open and honest political debate about anything in this country? We now have the 2 largest parties lining up to say that they won't cut the nhs budget, no doubt the liberals will say the same. Yet it is the NHS which is bankrupting the state. Spending on the NHS has trebled in 10 years- are we all 3 times as healthy? Well no, not when most of the money has been stuffed into the already well filled pockets of the consultants and GPs. Where is the party who will address this? There isn't one, because politicians assume that any mention of cutting health spending is an automatic vote loser. The fact is that health spending could be halved, and it would still be 50% higher than 10 years ago. So can we at least have a debate on NHS spending? No, I didn't think so.

Well I really hate to burst your bubble, Mr Boilerplated, but that is exactly what it does mean-when Parliament isn't sitting, no parliamentary business is conducted in London, and the reason that the chamber is almost empty most of the time is that these hard working souls are not in London even on most of the days that parliament is sitting. So 165 days a year in London is an absolute maximum, and I doubt whether most backbenchers make it to the House more than 100 days a year. As for the market value of these paragons, the only thing the market values is their address book after a few years in Westminster- most of them wouldn't command 30k a year if they hadn't got elected. It would be illuminating to check out the average income of those who came second in the last General Election. You can bet your boots that the "market" wasn't queuing up to recruit them.Pay a salary of 30k, and you will still get loads of candidates- that's called the law of supply and demand.
An equality of shame? 6:41pm on 21 May 2009 "they needed to live in two different places to serve their constituents"- I think it's time to lay this sort of rubbish to rest once and for all.For some of my many years as a civil servant I was based in Leeds, but worked in central London about 3 days a week, 46 weeks a year. The other 2 days a week I worked in Leeds. I neither needed nor received a "second home" allowance, what I received was reimbursement of the receipted cost of the hotel I stayed in. Nobody really has a "second home", all these politicians have one home, where they live with their family, if they have one. They may rent or buy a place in London, but they don't move their families to London for 3 or 4 nights a week, say 25 weeks a year, then move back to their main residence the rest of the time. That is just laughable, but it is the pathetic fiction which has been created by these self-same politicians for one reason and one reason only-to allow them to claim £20k+ per annum in untaxed expenses. That's all there is to it, folks. I think Nick Robinson has been in daily contact with these politicians for so long that he actually believes their self-serving garbage about how hard working and honest they are,and how, unlike everyone else who works part of the week in London and part elsewhere (and there are many thousands)they really, really,really must have a "second home",and above all, how they, unlike anyone else who miraculously found an employer generous enough to offer a similar package, shouldn't have to pay any tax on this benefit. Come on Nick, while you are away, talk to some real people, and please stop being an apologist for the unforgivable excesses of the political classes- you are, I hope, better than that.
