Vaughan leaves lasting legacy 4:03pm on 30 Jun 2009 I used to admire VaughKnee a lot during 2003-03; when he was the leading scorer in Tests along with Dravid. But while great players like Dravid, Sachin and Ponting kicked on, Vaughan stuttered his way to mediocrity, and tried to hang on to his captaincy and later, his career.... very shabbily, I might add. This made me one of his fiercest critics - I feel he should've retired from Test cricket after the 2005 Ashes(during which he was England's worst batsman); and tried to regain his batting at his county.

Instead it all had to end in tears and frustrations; with his County unable to suport his personal aspirations.

At any rate, it is perhaps fitting that Vaughan ended his career now; rather than struggle even at his County for a year or two.

So what? This is a problem only if the players have inflated egos over and above their real worth. Dhoni's team vs the Aussies had Sachin, Dravid, Kumble, Ganguly ... all ex-skippers. And yet the team conducted itself magnificiently and Dhoni's gesture of asking Ganguly to take over the reins for 30 minutes was simply fabulous.

KP's bloated ego clearly indicates he wouldn't have been successful as skipper at any rate. And the ECB have at last displayed their courage and forthrightness by delivering a blunt rebuke to KP. I think this will only help the England team in the long run.

I don't understand how England can be classified an elite team.
Who would make your team of the year? 1:00pm on 21 Dec 2008 Flintoff in a 4-man bowling attack? He will moan at the additional workload. You need to replace Ponting with Kallis to give balance to the side... 5 bowlers, 2 all-rounders...

Indian thoughts return to cricket 09:14am on 10 Dec 2008 Just recently, Vaughan reckoned that England should not return, and that 2 weeks of compulsory, proper mourning was required over the Mumbai blasts. Maybe he's forgotten he's the skipper.

Indian thoughts return to cricket 05:46am on 10 Dec 2008 Congratulations to Pietersen & co. for making the trip to India. My respect and regard for KP has gone up several notches... he is a true leader of men.... completely different to the negative, defeatisit moaning Vaughan.

As far as the cricket goes, it is a tall order for the Englishmen... unless the batting can improve overnight. The weather in Chennai might mean this is a one-match series at Mohali though.
