Now THE question will be:
Where were YOU when Usain Bolt ran the greatest race in history??

Too many superlatives to write, and I am not foolish enough to try and describe this achievement by using mere words.....I will simply point to Michael Johnson's reaction on the BBC after seeing the new WR of (and I still can't believe I am about to write this) 9.58....That just about said it all for me.

The race (and the reaction!!) was one of those great sporting TV moments.

Very, very special indeed.

Look Iain, I don't like Woods very much either, but I always try to abide by the principle of 'credit where it is due.'

First and foremost, Woods didn't need to say anything about Paramor' ruling.

Looking back with hindsight, it played a huge part in deciding the winner at Firestone. By drawing attention to it Tiger has actually downgraded his achievement of winning another WGC.

And he was right. It spoilt an amazing battle between these two. To see someone stand up to Tiger was enthralling. Who knows what would've happened had Paramor used common sense and realised that the enforcement of slow play is there to ease congestion of those behind you.

When you are in the last group, playing in a highly prestigious event, coming to the end of your round, and your pairing contains the only players in contention to win, the last thing you'd want is some self-important fat ass upsetting the balance of the contest in any way whatsoever.

For the first time in a very long time, I am going into a major hoping Woods will do well, and what the hell, win!

Picking an Open winner 4:00pm on 15 Jul 2009 I never bet on Woods, his odds are always prohibitive, 5/2 for an Open....

I'll be putting some of my money both ways on Brian Gay (100/1) - he looked very solid at Loch Lomond and he's the sort of player that could fly under the radar and do very well.

And my token British bet will undoubtedly be placed with more than a little hope on Ross Fisher, he's talented, confident and hungry after coming close at Bethpage.

Picking an Open winner 3:47pm on 15 Jul 2009 Yes, I agree that Tiger is the favourite, but not by the massive margin everyone (including the bookies) seem to think.

I am not at all convinced by Woods' putting since his return.

He had a dreadful week with the short stick at the US Open, and come to think of it, at The Masters too. Yes, he has won recently, and in impressive fashion. But winning PGA titles are small fry for Woods - he only cares about the Majors (and to a much lesser extent the WGC events).

When the pressure is on, if he has to play catch up (which is likely with such a high quality field) I am not sure he has the feel with the putter to do so.

Doubting Woods is high risk, his swing looks fantastic, his driving seems better than ever, his course management is improving all the time.

But when 30-40% of the total shots hit this week will be with the putter, I certainly can't see Woods running away with it.
Who's the greatest? 2:30pm on 07 Jul 2009 The sports of tennis and golf hold much in common.

1) Both are truly global sports; played, watched and loved in every county of the world. What other sports can boast a global power to such an extent?

2) They support highly successful tours for both men and women. Again, where else is this duplicated?

3) They share the quintessential system of 4 slam / major events per year, which ultimately define careers but also the history and future of these sports.

4) As Iain Carter writes, golf and tennis share the privilege of having the two top sportsmen, and possibly the top two sportsmen of all time, playing these games right now!

Comparing these sports is the product of an active, inquiring and sophisticated mind - possibly a case of apples and oranges, but who cares, I love comparing apples with oranges.

And why not? There is so much to enjoy about Tiger's golf and the tennis of Federer. The fact they are friends and also competitive rivals in major championships totals demands they, and therefore their respective sports, be compared.

To those that think this debate pointless, some advice. Open your minds for once, stop being so anal and for your own sake, enjoy a cross sport rivalry that has never been so enthralling. Because in 100's years time, history will consider us the most fortunate spectators in the history of sport. Largely because of these two amazing men.

For a definitive answer we must wait. But until then, as much as I admire Woods, no-one has ever made me feel as honoured to watch a sport as Roger Federer does, when he steps onto court.
Joy and pain in Paris 11:06am on 09 Jun 2009 Great blog - especially the bit about "Wow Wow" - only the Japanese have that ability to make entertainment both cool and cringy.

What a wonderful achievement, I am absolutely delighted for Roger. How on earth he managed to get to that final after Nadal's shock exit, let alone hold that final service game to clinch the title, I will never know.

I guess that's what champions are made of.

We'd like your feedback 11:16am on 31 Oct 2008 Agree with many of the above - the show does feel rushed, though this may have more to do with its designated late slot than the acutal duration of the programme.

However, I do think the focus on a particular sport has worked well and the variety of experts is also an improvement.
