What makes a tech story? 12:53pm on 03 Sep 2009 One area you could really improve is to give Microsoft the same toughing over that you gave to Spinvox. They produce the most widely used OS which happens to be (or of the box at least) the least secure and most responsible for spam and hack attempts.

The BBC almost never mentions this, its about time you did.

I noticed the BBC Tweeter feed highlighting the gloom stories yesterday but not seemingly mentioning the retail sales one.

The BBC has an obsession with the bad news and the pundits who bring it.

Also I can't help but notice that rarely, if ever, do stories which feature views from pundits employed by million pound and dollar loosing banks qualify their remarks by pointing out how poorly their own employers have done despite their sage thoughts.

Plus, every single negative story is reported while anything positive (higher than expected retail or house sales) is brushed off as a fluke.

Are you seriously intending to allow the PM's hilarious but clearly unintended remark to consume you're entire day's exposure?

I laughed as much as anyone but the next time a BBC executive denies that the corporation's new output has been dumbed down those of us who can see it do no more than point to this post.

Why do BBC editors ask 'should we' questions? There's not a recorded example of any feedback on this blog altering the way you report things, the accountability of BBC news is no more than that of commercial operators.

I have no idea if Milliband made the comment but it seems the BBC are desperate to try and report a leadership rival, Jon Sopel must be spending about 80% of every interview this afternoon asserting that the 'novice' line in Brown's speech was a dig at Milliband just as he yesterday wanted to makw something of Milliband not filling his speech with repeated words of loyalty.

All this is fine when it's clearly labeled as comment and opinion and when it's outside a formal news bulletin but as the BBC dives ever more downmarket it's becoming more and more obvious.

No doubt next week we can look forward to claims that David Davies is briefing against Cameron or that there are tensions between Cameron and Osbourne.

Half this stuff is untrue and little of it is of interest to anyone outside the media.
Queues or no queues 10:49pm on 22 Sep 2008 Those talking about comment being passed off as news need only look at Jon Sopel's opening remarks just after Milliband's speech in which Spoel invited audiences to for their own opinion of Milliband's failure to pledge never ending love for Brown.

It was sheer speculation but led the 'news' item and went unchallenged.
