Having voted Tory (Thatcher - first time voter, give women a chance, etc), Labour (Disillusioned, etc), Lib Dem (where are they now, etc?), Green (who they, etc?) I feel I'm running out of options to waste it on any party.

I wonder why we still have any hope in our politicians? Is it like wife-beating syndrome - the beater is sorry and promises never to do it again but always does?
Brown will take part in debates 3:16pm on 30 Sep 2009 I'm no great Gordon Brown supporter, as previous comments I've made here will testify, but I don't blame him for not wanting to be bullied or rail-roaded into agreeing to to a 'public debate' on Sky news because their agenda is to undermine him on Rupert Murdoch's orders. I'm surprised you're leaping on the bandwagon, Nick.

The media have really got it in for him. When Brown accused Adam Bolton of politicking himself over 'the great debate' this morning, Bolton put on a pseudo-innocent expression as if he would never think of something so underhanded. Who do you think you're kidding, Mr Bolton?

Sian Williams so-called interview with Brown on BBC also this morning consisted of her arguing and interrupting everything Brown said. I couldn't believe what I was watching and had to switch over as she was irritating me so much. I thought an interview was meant to consist of asking questions, allowing someone to answer and letting the viewers make up their own mind.

I think the vitriol being shown by the media, not forgetting the pre-prepared attack by the Sun before Brown even spoke could very well backfire and garner support for the Labour party. For the first time in years I'm thinking of voting Labour because I don't want a media-elected government by those who have their own reasons for wanting the Tories back in power.

Because they don't have to? Because they haven't worked them out yet?
Or because, more likely, their plans don't really matter. As Alfred Hitchcock would have said, they are the 'MacGuffin' in this drama, which is that governments lose elections rather than opposition parties win them.
To continue the metaphor, the government have lost the plot and the public have seen their act too often. We are now on "Labour 12: The Reckoning", all the actors are looking tired and the male lead, Gordon Brown, is looking too old to get the girl any more.
A promising young pretender waits in the wings for his turn in the spotlight and the whole cycle will begin again until the public gets tired of him also. We can boo and cheer as much as we like but individually we can't do much except be part of the audience.
Sit back and enjoy the show - it's only politics.

The words 'the boys' and 'jobs for' spring to mind. Is that as imaginative as it gets? What happened to more equality? Why not Theresa May? I'm no great fan of hers, or New Tory, but she seems to be out there working for the party. Could it be because she didn't go to Eton?
God forgive me for being such a cynic - can't think how that happened.

For two reasons, one is that the argument that the war is necessary in order to keep the streets of Britain safe is completely unbelievable. The opposite is true, it's more likely to result in terrorist attacks seeking revenge. The second being that the public no longer listens to Gordon Brown. We know it's a political war, again fought on the coat tails of the Americans.
It's a terrible tragedy that lives are being lost because politicians can't admit the war is un-winnable and would rather cling to power that face that fact. Ask the Russians.

Survival but at what price? 8:32pm on 05 Jun 2009 Brown will survive this - the question is, will the rest of us? His press conference was a good example of the old politics - prepare the answers beforehand and stick to them regardless of the questions and, further, decide what the public want without having asked them. So we get a new raft of policies and priorities that he has decided we want. Just like he decided we need a foreign company to help us run the post office, (I'm all in favour of Europe but I think there are a few things we can do ourselves), that we wanted billions spent on identity cards, that we wanted to abolish student grants, that we wanted to invade Iraq and fight in Afghanistan... the list is endless. I wonder if Labour understand what democracy really means any more? (And it's not the unelected Alan Sugar helping to run the government.) Perhaps Gordon could set up a committee to look into it?

At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, they have shown, despite all the mealy-mouth words, that they are more concerned with pocketing as much money as possible and have little concern for the people they have been elected to serve - us.

The whole system is corrupt and the public are getting very fed up with it. Ever since I can remember, we've been lied to and manipulated by third-class politicians.

No wonder people are disillusioned.
Jacqui Smith's expenses (again) 12:07pm on 31 Mar 2009 What makes me angry is MPs are milking the system for what it's worth, TVs, (Blair even claimed for his TV licence) washing machines, cookers, dryers, plant pots, even a sink plug (Ms Smith), while at the same time deciding that people without jobs can live on £60.50 a week - or £47.95 if you are under 25.

Marie Antoinette's notorious comment "Let them eat cake" comes to mind. Politicians should remember that was said on the eve of the French Revolution.

And if it was us (taxpayers), can we have them removed?
