Another spot of bother 4:12pm on 07 Dec 2009 Lampard's penalty record holds up at 20 out of 22. That's as good as anyone in the world right now, but as usual one miss is blown out of proportion and he's suddenly become a bad penalty taker overnight.

I'd still back him to tuck away the next one with considerable ease.
Hiddink sets high standard for Ancelotti 4:45pm on 21 May 2009 You don't seem to say anything different to me. I didn't criticise Scholari. I said Chelsea's results were much the same under Hiddinkk and they were under Scholari - which is true.

Well, that's a lie. Under Hiddink we have lost just one game in the league, and have dropped something like 4 points in total since his arrival. So to say that his results were the same as Scolari's is, quite frankly, laughable.

If the former applies, I'm not sure how you can have Essien in there (as incredible a player as he is). If you're going to judge it on this season, Lampard has been head and shoulders above the rest and should be a shoe-in really. Sure, if Essien had been playing the whole season, chances are he'd be worth a place - we really did miss him for the first half of the season. But Lampard's been influential, consistent and just pure quality.

I'm beginning to think that Frank's consistency is the reason why he's been overlooked by journalists, fans and players alike this season. Stats-wise he hasn't really had a better season compared to that of the last 4/5 years, but in truth his performances have helped save our season.

In a season filled with inconsistency and average performers, Lampard has shone for us.

If Chelsea end up winning a major trophy this year and Lampard maintains the level he's been performing at for the entire season, he has a very good shot of winning Football Writers' Player of the Year.

Anyway, fair play to Liverpool for last night - I naively ruled them out before the game - but the best team deservedly went through in the end.
