Republicans' lack of leaders 1:43pm on 25 Jun 2009 It doesn't matter who the Republicans put forward in 2012 if they can't reign in the Daily Show fodder that seems to have taken over. While they pander to the loudest noises in their party, they will have a hard time convincing people in the centre that they present an alternative to Obama.

Personally, I like Huckabee (I was hoping for McCain/Huckabee in '08, but alas he picked Palin) and he could go along way with the right VP choice as he can talk to those in the centre and on the left without ranting. He can (and does) talk to the likes of Jon Stewart and Bill Maher and is rarely in their sights even if they don't agree with him.
The real question about waterboarding 09:12am on 21 Apr 2009 15. The thing is, I've yet to see evidence of a single life saved as a result of Cheney's (or any one else's) torture programmes. So there really is no ethical dilemma. It also raises the point that, since this practice never achieved it's aims, that the whole thing was a considerable waste of time and effort. Not to mention the counselling those involved need afterwards, it's not easy to live with yourself after spending your work hours torturing someone.
The real question about waterboarding 08:20am on 21 Apr 2009 I am convinced that if any other country had been at the centre of this, the US and British governments would have been falling over themselves to condemn it. If an American or British soldier was captured and water boarded once, let alone 80 or more times, we would be looking for retribution. So I find it sickening and hypocritical that so many in America's right wing media are trying to justify this and other crimes carried out under Bush.

Evolution vs creationism 6:21pm on 13 Feb 2009 A lot is made of America's Creationists, but watching all the Darwin things this week, I heard that an incredibly large percentage of Britons are Creationists too. Indeed, this survey for BBC Horizon shows that less than 50% chose evolution for the origins of life:

Spot-on views 9:18pm on 20 Oct 2008 #27 I enjoyed Big Cat Live. This is the first year I've watched it, I'm not sure why I've missed it in the past.

#31 I did admit to jumping to conclusions later. If I have any objection to the fee it's that I have no choice in the matter. Back in my student days I used to get letters harassing me to buy one despite not owning a telly.

I think my real beef is with the length of time it takes to announce things on shows like Strictly Come Dancing. Is there really any need to wait twenty minutes between "and the next couple through to next week is" and the contestant's name? I think that's where the real waste is in the BBC. I think if they cut all those gaps we could get two more hilarious panel shows in.

I think I should forward all this to Points Of View.

I was half in jest too as I don't worry to much about how its spent as long as I get my 24 hour news and comedy panel show (Have I Got News For You is back, yay!!).

Did McCain do enough? 09:11am on 16 Oct 2008 FiveThirtyEight has McCain doing well right up until he accused Obama of being the negative one as most people went in thinking McCain had been the more negative. It then went to pieces for him by trying to uncomfortably segue back into the economy.

Personally, I got a bit sick of Joe the Plumber. I think he should have got a picture of a kitten in a plumber outfit and used that to pull on the heart strings. "That one wants to raise taxes for everyone, even kittens." might have worked.

I was thinking that and it would get more young people interested. Him or Bill Maher would be great in my opinion. Or Stephen Colbert, his speech at the While House Press Dinner thingy shows that he has no problem with saying what he wants to power, let alone potential power.

The problem is, with wallflower moderators the candidates aren't answering the questions at all. Palin even said "I'm not going to answer the question, I'm going to talk to the American people." (she may have thrown in a "you betcha" and a couple of winks, I don't recall) We have that already, they're called speeches.

Why have a debate if you aren't going to debate?
