Ferguson talk must please Man City 2:21pm on 18 Sep 2009 I dont understand how exactly Ferguson can 'not talk about City' in a press conference just before the game against the same opponents. If he had talked about them when they werent due to play them, then you may have a valid point, but saying Ferguson must be aware or 'scared' of City when they are his next opponents is crazy!

English elite face Euro test 11:46am on 11 Dec 2008 I loved the fact that someone pointed out earlier that ‘All English teams that were knocked out of the Champions League last year were beaten by…other English teams’

Just a few points to make

1. Lets not call it the ‘EPL’ can we? We’re not American (thankfully).
2. Whoever said that Messi was ‘home grown’ needs to have a word with the authorities! The little scamp has being playing for Argentina for years! I have seen him posing in photos in an Argentina shirt and everything! How does he get away with it? Next you’ll be trying to tell me Fabregas isn’t a home grown youngster from Islington whose Dad drives a taxi in the East end. I still don’t know why Capello never calls him up….
3. Did I really hear Pique referred to as ‘World Class’? Was this the same guy that was behind Wes Brown in the pecking order for centre back for united last year or does he have a twin brother they have been keeping under wraps? I just hope his first name isn’t ‘Ice’ (sorry)
4. Australian Football (soccer) league. I really don’t need to add anything to that statement to make it any more hilarious than it already is
5. Just because a team win a group game it doesn’t mean they become better than the opposition – does this mean Hull and Stoke are better than Arsenal? Nobody (except possibly a Spurs fan would agree – but then what would they be doing reading an article about the Champions League?! :-) ) So lets not read too much into Porto 2-0 Arsenal or Roma 3-1 Chelsea
6. Last seasons champions league was great – (aside from the penalties in the final – I am a Chelsea fan after all…) the only thing I was a bit gutted about was Arsenal v Liverpool was on the same night as Chelsea in the QF. The only thing stopping English clubs from dominating again is how the draw shapes up for the QF’s - when the same country divide is taken away – we could see all English teams separated (and non English fans would immediately be writing about conspiracy theories) or all pooled together (some English fans would then come up with the conspiracy theories :-) ) meaning only 2 would be in the Semi Finals. This is assuming of course that they all come through the Last 16 unscathed (fingers crossed for Panathanikos!) I’d like to see Barcelona kept apart as it will mean an exciting line up later on – but then the two games Barca and Chelsea played in the early knock out stages in the last few years were classics – so we should be in for a good tie!
7. Winning your group isn’t necessarily a good thing! Have you seen Barcelonas only viable opposition? Chelsea, Arsenal, Lyon and Inter. I bet they are delighted with that outcome….

Personally I don’t see the problem. They have an asset which a few other teams would love to have. Why then should they not use this to their advantage? Its obvious Arsenal are a soft touch, and away to Stoke was a game which they would not have looked forward to, but if they harboured any hopes of winning the title should be winning. Now they have lost 3 games, and havent played Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United or Villa yet
It's Lampard or Gerrard 2:16pm on 13 Oct 2008 I was at the game on Saturday and the booing of Ashley Cole was a joke. A lot of people don’t like the guy – so what, that doesn’t warrant booing him for a mistake. It made me ashamed to be honest, and it seems we are set on self destruction. We’re never happy unless we have something/someone to moan about. Ashley Cole has been in great form for Chelsea this season and deserves his place. Lampard, Cole, Crouch, these players have all been booed by our own fans over the last few years. I don’t know any other country which would do this and all these players want to do is go out there and play for their country.

The first 45 minutes was awful, we didn’t play well. So how is booing going to help? The guy next to me actually tried to start a chant a few minutes before half time ‘7 minutes til the booing starts’.. Its almost as if he was happy and couldn’t wait to boo. Thankfully nobody else picked up on it

Also cant understand the critisisms of Heskey! The guy put himself about all game and didn’t stop running. I am nowhere near his biggest fan, but credit where it is due.

As for the Lampard and Gerrard debate, well Gerrard surely must admit that Saturday was not his day. His passing was terrible. Always trying for the spectacular long pass when there was no need (although a lot of players were guilty of this), but I didn’t think Lampard played too badly, and at least got two assists. I thought the delivery was non existent – not a surprise - when Rooney is shunted out to the wing, and Walcott doesn’t have a great cross on him either, but when we were putting decent service in then we were creating chances/scoring. The Gerrard/Lampard problem came from the system which didn’t work. I would agree you cant play both AND Barry in the middle, but I believe people are too quick to jump on the debate when one has a bad game

P.S The guy who claimed to be a Chelsea fan and said he hopes England lose so ‘his players’ can get a rest is not a ‘typical Chelsea fan’ as someone pointed out. Just one idiots view – don’t brand us all because of it
