El Presidente 2:47pm on 27 Oct 2009 Speaking as a lifelong Tory voter, Cameron will have lost my vote at the next election unless he comes 'clean' on the EU and our position with regards the new constitution - after all, that's what this really is. The ONLY possible option for someone in my position, a rabid anti-EU phobic is with UKIP.

And I think I am not alone. If it opens the way for Brown to have another 5 years, God forbid, at least I know I kept to some kind of principle and that Brown can be at the helm when either he has to make massive public sector cuts or the IMF do it for him.

Politicians lie. All the time. And for the last 12 years, BBC economic and political journalists (and supposedly good ones, too) went into interviews with senior Liebour party politicians having seemingly done minimal research of the subject on which they are talking. They simply accepted any old rubbish and lies. And didn't have the evidence to repudiate the line.

May be, just may be, a few senior journalists are waking up to the fact that they shouldn't really just be spouting from the New Liebour press release.

But then I heard Sheila Fogherty and Pauline McColl on 5 Live this morning. And my heart sank.

You can't make radical overhauls of the benefits system unless you make an even more radical overhaul of the tax system. Benefits are so attractive to some because the income tax system bites at such a low level. And it is exacerbated by the fact that council tax, rent, etc are paid for you. Taken out of earned income, particularly those on low incomes from working, rent, council tax make a massive proportion of your monthly outgoings.

Until working actually pays for the low paid, why the hell would you not want to be on benefits?
Counting the 'workless households' 7:08pm on 26 Aug 2009 'The employment minister Jim Knight says the government has made real progress in tackling worklessness and points out that there are 2.5 million more people in work than in 1997.'

Problem is, Jim, there are about 5 million more immigrants in that time. So, as I read it, a net loss of around 2.5 million.

And, with the Government and personal finances of the UK in the current mess, I fear that these figures are going to get much, much worse. As a Tory, I really would vote Labour just to see this bunch of incompetents deal with the mess that will be upon UK plc.
