My YouTube shame - part two 3:22pm on 15 Apr 2009 If you upload (say) last week's Match of the Day to YouTube, you are breaching copyright. If you attend the football match yourself and take a video, OR a picture (the law makes no distinction), and subsequently upload it, you are not violating any copyright. There is no creative element, as the images are all your own work.

However, licensing is a completely different matter. Licensing is very distinct from copyright. Upon your ticket will be ters & conditions, and one will be something along the lines of "you may not use any kind of audio-visual recording equipment". When you purchase a ticket, you are entering into an agreement to abide by the rules printed upon that ticket.

While usually this interpreted to mean "no videoing", it can actually be used to disallow any photography, still or moving.

Here's the interesting thing - if you sneak into the match, or are granted free entry, or are perched in an overlooking tree or a handy block of flats, a hot air balloon, whatever, then you have no ticket. You have not purchased one, and are under no obligation in terms of licensing should you video what you can see. The image remains uncopyrighted. So, if you don't buy a ticket, or if you video it through the gates, the images are yours to distribute as you wish. If you make this explicit when uploading the video, the football league / FA / Sky / whoever have no right to ask YouTube to remove the footage.

Of course, YouTube's terms of service allow them to remove anything they like, whenever they like, and if they are asked to remove something by any kind of organisation, they usually do - fear of lawyers.

Plus 500 bonus points for signing up before Dec 31st.

So the total you can earn is 5425 points, but that requires you to have signed up on Oct 1st, and to never miss a single day.

The "top prize" (the XBox wireless controller) is 5500 points.

That being said, the site does say "Stay tuned for additional ways to earn tickets once you join the promotion", so perhaps you can get that elusive controller.

That said, 25 searches a day would probably take around 10 minutes. That's almost 33 hours of your time. A wireless XBox controller costs $39.99, retail.

33 hours of your time to earn $40 (approx £23). Not great.

Welcome to the real world, Tom! 3:15pm on 12 Aug 2008 Everyone is saying Tom Daley is very mature and focussed. And yes, he is, in interviews - which don't matter.

A shame all that maturity and composure was wasted on the interviews than the competition, in which Daley was sloppy, performing far worse than his partner, when normally he is the better of the two.

Daley and Aldridge took the synchro spot away from Pete Waterfield and Leon Taylor, a more experienced duo who would have performed far better under the pressure.

If Daley is allowed to compete in the Olympics with the adults, then he should be capable of dealing with pressure like an adult. He clearly is not - perhaps instead of all the media training he has been getting, he should have been getting some sports psychology work. No wonder Blake Aldridge was irritated.

Daley gets all the attention, and then stuffs up four of his six dives. While taking a few moments to have a pop at Aldridge in between dives.

Perhaps "our Tom" should have done less media interviews and more training?

"Less than three years from his sixth decade" or "fewer than eight years from his ninth decade" - what an ungracious and lazily slanted way to put things in a bid to make them appear older than they are. Just say "Obama is 47", or "McCain is 72".

Both men are also less than fifteen inches from being seven feet tall. Clearly, they are also freakishly tall.
You Are The Ref #1 4:53pm on 03 Jun 2008 Once an advantage has been signalled, play continues until the ball goes out of play, UNLESS there is an injury.

As the player who was scythed down is lying there, injured, interfering with play (playing the goalscorer onside), the appropriate decision is to blow the whistle once the advantage ends (when the keeper makes a save and the ball is clearer), send the player who comitted the foul off, and restart play with a drop-ball.
