be careful throwing those stones sir!

the liberals in 1997 fell for the blair's waffle of junior cabinet posts, if it supported labour in the house, should there have been a small minority or hung parliament. blair was covering all the bases.
in return, in areas where labour was second to the sitting conservative, libdems fielded paper candidates, who did no campaigning short of the odd poster, and their local campaign headquarters were closed all through the run up to the general election.

where the libdems were strongest in second place, then labour returned the favour in exactly the same way.
there was a BBC investigation into it shortly after (as doing this in an election can be considered a criminal offence)

this gave labour a huge landslide victory margin of seats and all the carrots blair was offering (just in case of a narrow result)went out of the window

the 20% of the vote that the libdems received, was aided by the campaign methods employed for that election, if you are of the impression that this practice should be rewarded - a practice that has made it near on impossible to get rid of the current bunch - at subsequant general elections, then i would have to disagree most strongly!
Changes to BBC Weather site 10:55am on 01 Dec 2009 when i read the headline, my initial thought was that they would have changed to provide an accurate forecast, from recent predictions, it would appear that i was wrong. your site still fails to be accurate on the weather.

how much money is being wasted on this nonsense?
Introducing green cuts 01:50am on 25 Nov 2009 im sorry for all those people concerned with the environment, but i cannot take this issue seriously at all.

we are told (by all parties) that climate change is a big thing and we must all do our bit, etc. yet one only has to look at the policies proposed and brought in by this government to see that it is all a big con trick!

whilst being told to cut our carbon emmissions by our beloved leader, the following is also true:

- local hospitals closed down = more travel
- consultants based in one area = 50-100 people travelling to them rather than one person travelling to the area
- towns decimated by successive government's policies = more people travelling to work
- speed restriction areas/traffic calming measures = more traffic jams = more fuel waste
- removal of laws governing underground building work = smaller storm drains being put in = more flooding
- more built up areas caused by over crowding as population grows = less natural drainage = more flooding
the list goes on and on, in each and every area of policy making and implementation.
why are policies implemented and not looked at from the green angle beforehand?

then we have another major factor in the argument - cost to the individual

- why does a "greener" more energy efficient home appliance cost more than a standard one?
- despite windfarms springing up everywhere - why are energy savings generated not being passed onto customers?
- if co2 is such a huge problem, why then do we continue to import our food, products from china/india, etc? wouldnt it make sense to at least make/grow some of our own? this is at the same time as we are told by the powers that be that britain should be "looking outwards"
- if public transport is so important, then why have the prices been allowed to quadruple in the past 5 years? a car travelling 15 miles round trip 5 days a week, is cheaper than bus travel covering the same distance in my area, by £10 each week

i could go on, the arguments that government are putting forward to the people and the huge fines that we are being signed up to (ie, landfill taxes) are completely contradictory to the policies they are implementing on all of us, poor old joe public is stuck in the middle, damned if we do, damned if we dont!
Spot the difference 10:15pm on 23 Nov 2009 how exactly is gordon brown committed to "halving the public debt?"

all ive heard is that hes put it on record in the queens speech, ive yet to see a single shred of detail on how he is going to acheive this huge task.

which areas will be cut? is he ring fencing any funding? given his complete failure to reform the civil service and the almost 2 million new civil service jobs he has created, will he finally make drastic cuts in non jobs and needless pen pushers?

how do the unions feel about forthcoming cuts of almost 100 billion pounds?
why arent the BBC (and others in the media) asking any questions about this?

i love this admission that labour's policies on europe have totally messed up what the UK used to have!

labours open doors policy in europe was to get them back "a core group of voters" - working classes had got good pensions, owned homes, owned shares, set up businesses, etc, under major's government, there was only diehards for the labour party to appeal to.
with a new wave of people coming to the UK, they instantly voted for the party that opened the doors for them and gave them benefits, housing, schooling, employment, transport, etc. this being the labour party.

the downside to all this, was that in opening borders and gaining this core vote, labour gave up vetoes and opt-outs which protected what eurozone countries wanted from us... inward investment!
when blair took over in 1997, he inherited a UK with its highest rates of inward investments from businesses around the world!
our pension funds were also one of the best in the world - as any company takeover by law - had to better the current workers pension fund that was in place at the company being taken over.

gordon brown destroyed this!
changing the law allowing his government to raid pension fund profits to spend on labour pet projects and allowing businesses to use pension funds for other purposes in their businesses, has been a complete disaster, for all the workers who paid into their pots via workplace schemes.

prior to 1997, world business used the UK as a base for manufacturing and invested here, providing hundreds of thousands of jobs for the british worker.
no red tape on businesses, investment flooded here and the eurozone hated us for it, we didnt have the burdens that they did.
world business invested in the uk, then transported their products to the eurozone.

brown's admission today is long overdue, he alone has created regulation that has crippled british industry plc, destroyed inward investment from businesses around the world.

"We need an outward-facing Britain that can attract large scale inward investment and sustain high value added jobs." said gordon brown today in front of the CBI - after regulating to destroy it for so many years, i find this insulting.
he is not fit for office!

when my wife gave birth, after 4 weeks of going to the midwife meetings with 20 odd other parents to be, the wonderous joys of the facilities at our local hospital, in a neighbouring town 15 miles away, were presented to us.
when we arrived at said hospital for the birth, we were at first greeted with "no rooms available" even when staff knew we were on the way after staying at home as long as possible
we waited in the TV area for over 40 minutes
when we finally had a room for my wife to give birth, the promises of plenty of space, in a pleasant environment, even the promise and request of a birthing pool, we had been given at the weekly meetings by the midwifery staff, proved to be pure fabrication.

chipped plaster on the walls, left for 20 minutes in the room, with contractions less than a minute apart, i personally had to walk to the other end of the unit to ask why no one had been to see my wife, (other than to fill out more forms upon arrival)
finally, a semi qualified lady nipped in with a trolly and some paper towels. the room wasnt big enough to swing a cat in (let alone walk around as promised) the bins were over flowing with wipes, tissues, dressings, etc. the needle bin was full.
when the first lady knocked off (as her shift had finished) we breathed a sigh of relief when a fully qualified nurse arrived, with a trainee, coughing and sneezing on my wife, caked in make up!

despite all this, the birth was a success, when i questioned the state of repair of the room, staffing levels etc, i was informed that they (the labour government) are trying to run the unit down with a view to closing it, something they have already done with 3 other hospitals in neighbouring towns, yet strangely enough, exactly the opposite has occured at the hospital in jack straw's constituency, which is 15 miles the other way from our town.

perhaps a better example would be this government's fight against MRSA
two family members have had to visit two different hospitals for minor out patients treatment in the past 2 weeks.
both have their appointments with consultants after being talked through the simple procedures by our family doctor, who kindly booked the appointments.
on both occasions, a full day off work/college was booked, and on arriving, they were informed exactly the same details by a consultant (more expense?) then given swabs for MRSA then sent away whilst they wait for another two weeks for results from a lab test!

what happens if they are clear of MRSA in the lab results but catch it in the two weeks in between?
both family members face another appointment for the actual treatment, which means they will each have waited two months in total for simple procedures to be carried out.
because of government targets.

just as with nhs dentists - the media are being attacked, with dentists the government's response was always "it is isolated pockets without NHS dental cover" - when in fact these said "isolated pockets" totalled more than two million people, the papers discovered and reported the queues and failings of the system.
i have no doubt that negative stories in the press are not the reasons for peoples reactions to the nhs, the people use their own experiences to make a judgement.

to state otherwise is misleading

that my friend is the entire purpose of the speech, to give labour doorstep knockers and supporters some mud to throw, nothing more nothing less.

brown and his ministers will now go about the country stating that "the tories oppose halving child poverty!"
"the tories are ignoring child poverty!" etc etc etc.
its all the same blah blah blah that blair gave the country, full of aims and ideal scenarios, yet not a bit of substance on how they are going to acheive it!

if brown cares about child poverty in this country, why has he supported policies that have put more children in poverty?

the old addage applies to labour: you dont congratulate an arsonist for pulling you from your burning home and saving your life, when the same arsonist started the fire!

personally i would rather receive a hand written letter (spelling mistakes and all) everytime over a vetted, proof read, print out with a scrawling signature on the bottom.
that said - i noticed on the BBC news tonight, how we keep being told about gordon's eyesight, and he struggles to construct letters and uses black felt pen... yet on the clip shown on most news channels, he can clearly be seen reading small printed text perfectly well and underlining a piece of the prose in black pen, with accuracy and neatness.

the two do not go together... maybe its an exaggeration?
So, the Czech was not in the post 01:36am on 04 Nov 2009 hitler's ideals were to dictate the european continent in his image, where as the european community today, is dictating the european community in the image of whoever is leading it and pulling the strings!
(allow me some leaway on the analogy please)

hitler didnt give people a say in how he ruled europe
european union isnt giving the people a say in how they are governed

sorry to say it, but now all is well, what happens when there is a major spat (between a socialist european president enforcing rules etc) and a right wing government who must face their people to say: sorry we have been slapped down by europe and cannot do XXXX
will the right wing government just sit and take it, and be voted out of office in their next general election?
i dont think they will.

first we will have huge fines imposed on the people of the country failing to abide by euro laws
next we will have a trade embargo and/or sanctions against the country as it refuses to put its people in hardship by paying the huge fines
then we will have the country removing itself from the european union

if that fails, we could literally have a european war on our hands!

it doesnt take much for alliances between big european countries to be struck up, and the same goes for opposition to europe.

this whole issue can easily be very dangerous!
id give it around 5 years, before a country pulls out altogether or god forbid, declares war on another.
