Changes to BBC Weather site 2:09pm on 29 Nov 2009 Maybe I'm too old, but i've had difficulties with the new design - how about reinstating the 'classic'(pre-feb) post code based at a glance 5 day forecasts for those of us who like to spend just seconds checking the weather, as well as all the more informative sciencey stuff you have planned?

The old site was more or less a design masterclass in functional simplicity, the new, not so much.
Reasons to be careful 11:55am on 23 Nov 2009 Given the general low calibre of our political parties at the moment, no-one winning might just be the best result for the country - though i'm not optimistic about our puerile 'party first, nation second' mps being able to form any kind of productive coalition.

By the way, at the weekend i read that David Cameron was the 'self proclaimed heir to Blair'. Did he actually say this, and if he did why?

'Chairman' would be a more apropriate title for the role.

'President' has connotations of executive power, but as far as i can tell the EU president has no executive or decision making powers at all.

He chairs a meeting of eu leaders 4 times a year - he does not frame policy or make any decisions about the EUs direction.

He is simply not a 'president' of anything in the same sense that other national leaders use the title.
Plotters, quitters and fighters 2:16pm on 16 Nov 2009 Lets face it, we're stuck with gordon for the duration, no alternative candidate will be willing to act as prime minister for a couple of months before suffering the inevitable career ending general election defeat.

Nobody ambitious enough to want the job is going to want it on those terms.

Not even Harriet Harperson.

So its another 5 or 6 months with a freewheeling government coasting carelessly and directionlessly towards the inevitable ousting.

i absolutely do, a collective fighting force where each member countries have different rules of engagement and different levels of commitment to the war is hardly a collective at all.

I think my point was more along the lines of gordon brown announced today he was trying to secure an increase in troop numbers from non-US/UK NATO countries like it was a new policy. but both the UK & US have been trying to do that,unsuccessfully, for years.

Yesterdays 2 page headline story in the independant.Completely unrefuted ior challenged by either murdoch or the tories. and thats before you google 'tory/murdoch pact.

I probably work for labour too. they employed me & pay me a fortune. because they are worried sick that the tory bloggers on the beeb have so much power & influence thay might prevent a possible labour victory in a general election.

The difference is that when the sun supported labour, the quid pro quo was that labour were supposed to help Newscorp out in the face of EU anti-compettition legislation, which they failed to do, but would not have drastically affected the average british citizen.

This time round if the tories win they are expected to slap down the BBC because Murdoch feels the value for money offered accross their wide range of services for pennies a day is anti-competitive.

He feels it would be fairer if we all had to pay a monthly subscription, preferably to him, for the full range of services.according to recent announcements & articles, tory policy (what they've revealed of their plans for the beeb) seems to fall into line with this view.

If the tories win the next election we may be paying for the privelege of posting on these boards, or they may not be here at all

Bush/Obama and Blair/Brown have already tried it several times over the last few years - always without success

The lead article is about 'balance'.

Most of the people commenting have absolutely no interest in anything that might dispove their own conspiracy theories, and are actually offended by the presentation of opposing arguments by the BBC.

Part of it was certainly that Tony Blair was supposed to intercede with the EU on Rupert Murdoch's behalf, after his newscorp group fell foul of the EU competition commisssion - they failed.

why do think murdoch media is so anti EU?

This time round most commentators think that the tories are offer BBC reform in return for Murdoch support.

Murdoch thinks its deeply unfair that the BBC exists to provide 'free' (i know there's the licence, but compared to satellite monthly charges its an absolute pittance) alternatives to services that you have to pay for or will have to pay for in the future through his media group.

He (and the tories) take the view that this is bad for competition, even though, obviously its very beneficial to the average british media consumer. It would be much fairer in their view if everbody had to pay more.
