Personally, I blame the kids 1:28pm on 16 Oct 2009 Surely, cabinet ministers in times of yore had (as the tabloids might have called them) 'love children'. What is novel, perhaps, is how many now have children with their wives (or husbands).
Today 'TV' 7:01pm on 02 Jun 2009 It seems like only early April that the idea of the presenters getting their costumes for the Today programme was being treated as a joke...
The role of FOI in MPs' expenses 09:38am on 08 May 2009 Am I right to feel queasy about the way this information has been published today? Although described as a 'leak', what appears to have happened is that a company (the Telegraph) paid an employee of a public body a sum of money to induce the employee to breach his/her duties of confidentiality, solely so as to allow the company to profit at the expense of its rivals.
Why do we not treat this as bribery, or as corrupting a public official? If (say) a pharmaceutical company had paid a public employee to 'leak' to it the outcome of a decision whether to licence a drug, or a financial company had paid a public employee to 'leak' to it the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee, would we be so sanguine?
Goodbye "Knock-off Nigel" 10:26am on 02 Apr 2009 Isn't this a classic 'nudge'? Research shows better results from saying "Do good things, just as other people are" than "Don't do bad things".
Revolutionising sport on the telly 10:36am on 13 Mar 2009 People were indeed talking about the CNN hologram stunt on US election night - but solely because it was so completely pointless.
It smacked of technology for technology's sake, without improving the user experience at all.
Good to see that there will be a real use for it.

Grammar test - your turn 2:21pm on 17 Nov 2008 "family are" - singular noun with plural verb

"momentarily" - "in a moment", not for only a moment

"in effect", not "in affect"

"inferred to", should be "suggested to". One infers something from something else.

"None... are", should be "None... is"

"one less opponent" should be "one fewer opponent"

"bored of" should be "bored with"
The Irish Problem 1:59pm on 18 Jun 2008 It's not about having a 'democratic right' to veto things; it's about having a contractual (treaty) right to do so.
The EU is based upon a series of multilateral treaties to which all members must be party. That is a decision made by everyone. They can't complain, when a referendum goes against them, that this is 'anti-democratic'. It's just what they all agreed, by treaty, ought to happen.
A divisive Davis? 1:30pm on 13 Jun 2008 A quick question: if David Davis is taking the stewardship of the Chiltern Hundreds in order to leave Parliament, will he be able to quit that role in time to stand for Parliament once again?
