England understudies can shine in Qatar 09:32am on 16 Nov 2009 Hargreaves will not make the world cup team i'm almost 98.9% certain. I really do worry about David James due to his injury and inability to train after a game cos he is presently Englands best goalkeeper.
Darren Bent hasnt been given a fair chance in the England team so people should be less critical of him. Where he doesnt make it to the world cup its not the end of the road for him, as he will definately statke his claim as Englands best forward in the future as he has it in him, watch out in the next Euros qualification and final as im quite optimistic.

England may have had players missing, but i do think that you Phil and fans alike should really give a thought to what Capello says. He says that Brazil is the best England have played since his time as manager, as they defended very well and limited the opportunities England had more than any other team which England has lost to and the penalt miss was a more of a let off.

Under Dunga, the Brazillian team have a balnced team which has physical presence, speed and technical ability. This was exhibited in the confederations cup which they won when all hopes where on spain. I dobelieve that a full England squad will be more of a threat but might just be at a cost where the back 4 will be picked out on counter attacks. The Brazillian team is one team england should hope not to meet early on in the knockout stages of the world cup as history is more likely to repeat itself
England understudies can shine in Qatar 11:26am on 13 Nov 2009 Phil you have a nact for writing interesting articles but you just have to make the 1 wrong comment almost all the time too many at times such as your well publicised opinion on Beckham and the quote below:

"Capello appears to have underscored the fact that Manchester United's Ben Foster and West Ham's Robert Green will be the understudies to Portsmouth veteran David James. He has always been keen to look at Joe Hart, but I would prefer Blackburn's Paul Robinson to be in the squad at the expense of Foster."

What 'fact' do you know, are you a football manager? Capello by all standards is a world class coach and we in england and most especially our local coaches should be learning from him. We presently do not have an english manager that can put out and manage a team that gave us an almost perfect qualifying campaign like we just had. People like you Phil have no qualification to make the kind of demands you talk about in your writhing, and sureley you are by no statistics a well renowned football journalist who has any authority to dictate the names on a teamsheet of a well seasoned football coach in the calibre of Fabio Capello. I strongly suggest that like the rest of us fans you sit back for once and support the team Capello puts out and keep your opinions to yourself cos it will not in any way sway Capello's plans
Benitez's brinkmanship strikes again 09:10am on 26 Oct 2009 ManU had their best team against L'pool of which you cannot say of the latter and they were beaten properly...this is a lot to talk about. I was supprised to here the likes of Alan Hansen on MOTD and even you Phil, not commenting about a Ryan Giggs, yes he was on the team sheet, but against a formidable opposition (or a team that has been faltering) he was out-run and out played, also Scoles. To imagin that these 2 players could not get anywhere Lucas(whom the press have demonised) and Insua doest it tell a good story. Rooney, where was he. As for Carrick well we could see why Capello doesnt think highly of him.
For Fergie to complain about the ist yellow card Vididc received is quite absurd, he was walking a thin rope after his previous fouls in the game wich the referee waved on and his luck just had to run out for consistent fouling. Rafa won this battle fairly and squarly and Fergie should take it like he has on the chin, and leave the referees out of it, albeit he should gert an unprecedented fine/ban from the FA
I feel for Capello with at the world cup, cos if england should play agains spain in the 1st knock out stage, i dont see any possible improvement from the likes of Ferdinand against Torres, or Rooney getting a kick, englad will be sorry packing

Whats my insurance going to cost compared to me carrying a netbook alone which can perform most of the abilities of the named devices? This tech companies are running out of ideas, and so just like the sub prime mortgage borrowers stopped paying back their loans which led to the banking crises, the public will stop buying all these ill-thought devices from tech manufactures which hopefully will lead to less reaping-off to consumers

Phil as the author of this blog you owe it to us contributors to qualify your position on Beckham as we have earlier requested. Saying "He needs to get that deal signed with AC Milan sharpish and improve his fitness" is no explanation and could be deemed as unprofessional from a journalist like yourself.. You have access to statistics from the BBC sports archive so we expect you to use your privilege and provide us with the desired info to justify your statement. Hope this is not too much to ask?

The england team presently has 2 leaders in Terry and Becks, and surely even you know that the team needs this. We all see it when Becks is playing that Terry may be wearing the armband, but the true leader is Becks, and his teammates acknowledge this. Yes he is not fit to run 90mins, but that is part of the reason football is about team work, team balance, with the provision for substitution.
What will be your honest opinion about you confidence in Lennon or Walcott playing against top class defences who would stop them from running, will you then advice capello to bring in Wright-Phillips who plays the same style, or Becks with a different style, or will you have Joe Cole come into a position he is not confident in and doesnt have the awareness to back track for a defensive cover as he doesnt have the speed of either wallcott or lennon going forward?
Joe Cole if fit should make the team imo but i do not agree it should be done at the expence of Beckham, rather it should be more at the likes of Milner (who is young) Carrick, the trio of Carlton Cole, Crouch, Hesky)

"With Beckham, the most important thing is that he has to play," stated Capello.

"For me it is very important because Beckham, when he plays, whether it is five minutes, 20 minutes or half an hour, he always plays very well. He is focused on the game. This is important.

"Sometimes players when they come on, have difficulty to enter the game but David always plays very well."
Capello's World Cup contenders 09:47am on 15 Oct 2009 Beckham if fit will definately be in South Africa even with a slight injury. Michael Owen will not be in South Africa, even if he ends up top striker this season, unless there is a disaster with all the other named forwards - Young & Agbonlahor will both be ahead of him. Phil the likes of you and the rest of other fans need to know this. Capello is not a Mclaren, Hoddle,or any other English manager that takes players based on past history. We've have all seen it in teams he has managed
Torres, Drogba or Rooney - who's the best? 11:52am on 05 Oct 2009 For the guys rating Torres as the worlds best striker, i wonder where you watch your football. In the spanish team he is second to David Villa by miles. When he was in spain, the likes of Eto, Fabiano, Villa, Messi were all ahead of him in the striking order. I guess the english mentality of over rating players has caught up with you guys who forget that football is played in other countries at the highest level. Can you all take a look at strikers in internationals or champions league? Torres doesnt feature as a dominant forward that determines games as regular as the likes of Messi,fabiano, Drogba....or even Steven Gerrard (a midfielder) his team mate at l'pool. Yes he is good, but still not near the best of strikers.

There is know way Rooney is better than either Drogba or Torres. he is the least effective striker amongst the 3 players. The competition for top spot is between Drogba & Torres, so you are off the mark with your assessment. Its a failure
