Vexatious and irresponsible questions 5:33pm on 14 Jul 2009 I'm one of the people who runs the WhatDoTheyKnow website.

A quick note that the blog post linked to from "This site is certainly regarded as very vexing by numerous public authority FOI officers" is a year old. I think FOI officers have better understanding of the value of the site now. We have made many changes to improve the site in response to feedback from officers and requesters, and will continue to do so. Please do tell us about problems.

As for vexatious requests... One of the nice things about WhatDoTheyKnow is that anyone can see the full set of requests and make up their own mind.
More bovver with Rovver 12:34pm on 14 Jul 2008 Rother's note about the response being personal to the requester does not say or imply that they are not going to send the response. I think they are just covering their backs - which is fair enough, as long as they still send the response to the request!

For that reason, I've marked the request as "waiting response" again.

WhatDoTheyPost 12:44pm on 12 Jun 2008 Hi! We've just this week made a couple of changes following this kind of feedback.

One is to remove mobile phone numbers (which are often personal, and in email signatures of FOI officers).

The other is to put back in a warning on request emails, saying we're going to publish the correspondence, and linking to this new section of our help page http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/help/about#officers

I'm hoping that FOI officers will take this warning as intended, to stop them including their own personal information in correspondence. Last time we tried, we had one officer not reject requests for spurious copyright reasons

Suggestions for wording improvements welcome.
