Twilight of the blogs 3:22pm on 04 Nov 2009 This thing with the content not working is happening a lot. I'm sure it's not that I have the wrong flash player as sometimes I can get these videos to work.

Hint: Look it up on youtube.

Big Budget Catastrophes of Pure Joy 6:03pm on 09 Oct 2009 I don't know if it was a flop or a hit financially, but this seems as good a place as any to get this off my chest. I really, really like Coyote Ugly, and don't even bother telling me this is an indefensible stance. I'm well aware how bad it is, but from the terrible car crash of sensibilities - teen girly romance on the one hand, Zoo weekly on the other - to the scene where the main character stops a bar brawl by singing Blondie, I just love it.
Screening Process 3:05pm on 15 Sep 2009 The problem with this whole Bride Wars challenge is my favourite Kermode reviews are the bad ones. For my money, the Bride Wars review has been the most entertaining few minutes of the podcast all year - good though the whole show is. So my dilemma is this - I don't want Dr K to leave, but I really, really want to hear some more bad film reviews. I should add to this that the good films never make it to the cinema where I live anyway, so the entertainment level of the podcast is way more important to me than that of the actual movies.
Pieces of blog and even more of your 3D thinking 3:09pm on 13 May 2009 IanSchultz, I used to go to the Electric in Birmingham and the Midlands Arts Centre for arthouse films. The electric is apparently still running at www.theelectric.co.uk and is 100 years old this year.
I now live in Australia and, while I sympathise with the person who said they had to travel 70 miles to see Let The Right One In, it's 700km to get to Perth and little chance my local three-screen cinema will get anything arty or foreign-language, so downloading or waiting for the DVD are the only choices and there's no guarantee the video shop will get the film in anyway.
I nearly fell down with surprise when they got the Russian vampire film Nightwatch a few years ago (read the book!) but the anomaly has not occurred again since.
Press, politics and the art of going big screen 4:40pm on 28 Apr 2009 I recently got my hands on Season 2 Part 2 of Twin Peaks and was rather excited about it.
"At last", I thought, "I'm going to see the end of the series again". I watched about four and went: "Oh, yes. This is where it gets rubbish." I will get back to it. Eventually. That's probably what David Lynch said, too, as he was absent for much of Season 2.
At its height, Twin Peaks was excellent. Fire Walk With Me is, depending on my mood, irritating, boring, disturbing, a masterpiece, though it's no Mulholland Drive.
It is also terrifying, but if you want to enjoy the murder mystery of the TV show DON'T watch the film first.

While I agree, it's better to use for example, German actors, speaking German for a film about Germans, there are a couple of films I can't help excusing.
I recently saw Amadeus again, in which Mozart not only speaks English, but does so in an American accent. And you know what? It didn't matter because it's a great film. I'd rather that than have him speaking in a dodgy accent which distracted my enjoyment of the film.

The same goes for Dangerous Liaisons and the variety of cockney accents you'll hear during a West End performance of Les Miz.
So I suppose what I'm saying is sure, yeah, make the films in the language they're supposed to be in, but if you're going to make them in English, just let them use their own accents. It's much less distracting.
