Just as a point of fact, Sharpe didn't come through the ranks - he was bought, from Torquay, where he played 14 first team games. While that crop of youngsters did have a lot of players who'd been through the youth system with United, Fergie has always had a good eye for a young player from other clubs.

But seriously, those few Aussies indulging themselves in a bit of whining should follow Ponting's lead: brilliant on the field, gracious in defeat. I'd hope that Strauss would be as magnanimous.

It also employs over 75,000 people in the UK, not counting the hundreds of smaller businesses which provide it with various services, the UK farmers who supply much of its food, etc. Hence "the fuss".

As for the ridiculous notion that shops are responsible for driving up household debt - there's only one person responsible for any individuals debt, and that's themselves. If you choose to get yourself a credit card and spend £5,000 on it, that's your decision- and your fault if you can't actually afford it.

Overall, Rose has done a very good job. It's time for him to go, because M&S needs fresh blood and fresh ideas at the top to keep it at the top of its game, but it's silly to rush him out of the door now, when there's an orderly succession plan in place.
Can we afford the carriers? 12:23pm on 30 Jun 2009 JavaMan1984, I'm sorry, but something just doesn't add up with the story of your dad's neighbour. If he's unemployed, he doesn't get a mortgage. If he is working on the side, unless he has two or three years of certified accounts (in which case he's paying tax) he wouldn't get a mortgage. So where's his money really coming from? Or is this one of those stories that's grown long in the telling?

The only "customers" the BBC has are license fee payers, and the vast majority of those complaining here - certainly, the most vocal ones - don't fall into that category. And to answer GeoffK1874, if it saves money, I support it.
Twists and turns of breakaway row emerge 12:21pm on 22 Jun 2009 It was notable that when asked about Mosley at the weekend, Bernie didn't exactly give him much backing. I believe he was asked if he believed Mosley should stay or go, and basically said it was a matter for the FIA.

My gut feeling is that no matter what happens, Bernie will come out smelling and roses and rolling in the cash - he usually does end up on the winning side! :)
Stop the blocking now 8:19pm on 14 Jun 2009 That so many people on this thread can't tell the difference between a commercial organisation choosing to not spread its content to every location and a government censoring what its people can and can't see both depresses me and makes me believe that some people are very, very spoilt.

Unlike those complaining, the people of Iran can't simply flip to CNN, FoxNews, or whatever. To compare your own situation to theirs is, frankly, insulting. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
