Medal hopes in credit thanks to team effort 10:24pm on 30 Sep 2009 This is all a little too late in many cases and the whole situation still stinks. The Olympics should be about the athletes first. How can anyone justify the funding 'hole' being placed upon the athletes? Many of them have given up careers to train full time or train at great personal cost and rather than saving money in other areas (does the media centre really need to cost £350M?) the funding restraints have hit those who feel it most. It was only today that Boris suggested approx £30M could be saved simply by changing venues for some events!

It's great that some money has been found. But this situation should never have arisen. Save and scrimp in other areas. But do not hit the athletes with it. Many of the affected schemes have had to take drastic action; whether it be letting top class coaches leave, or removing entire teams from their program.

So long as the prawn sandwich brigade are taken care of... what does it matter, huh? £50M out of a £10BN budget. At the athletes feet. At now we're supposed to celebrate this great injection of funds. Should never have been in this situation in the first place.

Shame on the organising committee. Shame on them.
Chambers takes self belief to new level 02:40am on 22 Jun 2009 Chambers needs to build up his public exposure. If he's getting lots of media coverage race organisers are going to be more likely to invite him to races. That, and he's performing extremely well.

If people want to see him run, and he's building up a bit of hype and following, it's tougher to not invite him.
Bad taste Haye creates a buzz 01:01am on 21 Apr 2009 I wonder how many people would react with such indifference to the t-shirt had it been an English boxer portrayed. 'Oh, yeah... I guess decapitated brothers isn't exactly pleasant.... but oioi! Come on you England!'. Quite.
Bad taste Haye creates a buzz 8:00pm on 20 Apr 2009 Haye is more concerned with celebrity and fame than boxing it would seem. There's also more chance of me being crowned Queen than Wlad 'coming out throwing bombs'. He'll fight his usual grinding style fight and Haye will get mangled.
The jeers and not enough cheers in Turin 08:17am on 09 Mar 2009 I agree with what's been said thus far. Let's not forget that part of the problem was Dwain's own honesty. He could have made up something about tainted supplements. He could have denied it entirely. But he owned up to his mistake and where did that get him?

I don't expect that there will be any response to these comments; Mr Cram will continue to put down Chambers as and when he can. I always thought that commentators should be somewhat neutral... but it seems now it's perfectly acceptable for personal opinion to colour and shape commentary.
GB stars come in from the cold 5:25pm on 05 Mar 2009 Dwain also set a recent PB, but does anyone know where he's been training recently? If it's at home it would provide an interesting contrast.

Why gym doesn't fix it for volleyball 4:03pm on 22 Aug 2008 Matt, try to watch the indoor finals if you can. Then maybe you can post again with a review and another comparison of the volleyball versions? I'd be interested to see what you think once you've seen a bit more indoor.

I'll also add a quick point - not everyone indoor is huge. And you forget that Dalhausser and many of the beach players are as tall as the indoor players. Giba (Brazil, indoor winger http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giba) is arguably the best player in recent times. Not unusually tall by any means - he's about 6'3".
Why gym doesn't fix it for volleyball 3:24pm on 22 Aug 2008 Indoor volleyball is much better, especially the men's side of things. Beach volleyball for guys goes something like:

- serve to the short guy
- tall guy sets
- short guy wins the point
- other team serves
ad infinitum

There are no rallys. And technically, it's nowhere near as interesting. Watching a good indoor setter command an attack with decoy hitters then a huge hit from the back court (eg Dante from Brazil) is 1000x better than anything you'll see on the beach.

Beach is the 5-a-side football of volleyball.
