Well, Gavin, reading the comments on your blog it's clear that we have decided, and we've decided that this was anything but a normal Question Time. No matter what lengths you might go to to deny it, this was an out-and-out attack on one member of the panel by the audience, the other panellists and even the chairman. As far as I'm aware that isn't normal for Question Time - or at least I hope it isn't. No, Gavin, you in your ivory BBC tower might think you're above reproach - we don't.

If Button doesn't win at least one of the remaining three races his championship will be regarded as a default.

I normally agree with you, Nick, but on this one I couldn't disagree with you more. it IS a historic moment, because for the first time in his long political career Gordon Brown has come clean about the economy. And he has only done it now because he has been forced into it by the decisive arguments of the Opposition. Tactical repositioning? That's Mandelson talk!

How small-minded and ridiculous we will look when the new museum opens and there are gaps in the otherwise awe-inspiring display of the marbles in their original formation. How would we feel if someone came along and took away bits of, say, the Royal Albert Hall and refused to return them? It would be an act of cultural vandalism to continue to hang on to them; conversely, it would be an act of admirable right-thinking and generosity to return them. International ridicule or world-wide respect? That's the British Museum's choice.

They have been unduly influenced by pressure from the Israeli government and have, therefore, shown themselves to be incapable of impartiality. One man gives the other a bloody nose before the second man takes out a knife and stabs the first repeatedly, leaving him seriously injured. The man with the bloody nose runs off, leaving the first man lying on the pavement bleeding to death. What do you do? If you are a decent human being, you come to the aid of the dying man. If you are the BBC, you cross the road and pass by on the other side. That's the difference between the DEC and the BBC.

Ken Clarke is, to adapt Blair's sycophantic phrase, the people's politician, and his bruising presence on the Opposition front bench will put the fear of God not only into his own party, but, crucially, into the rabble on the other side of the dispatch box. The weasel that is Peter Mandelson will be eaten alive by the lion that is Ken Clarke, and the Conservatives will sweep into power at the next election. Result for Cameron, result for the country!
