Three-way on the MPC 7:21pm on 18 Nov 2009 Yes the UK is busy creating another bubble, before the old one has even collapsed. This madness is beyond words. You talk of two types of asset bubbles and say it's not the bad one. I say this is a third, new, unprecedented asset bubble, directly created by the government itself, using tax and QE money. It is madness squared and it is a case of identifying petrol as the agent to stop a fire. That fire was allowed to get out of control by the same people that now pour the petrol on top of it all. Apparently it is hoped that it will not be the bulk of indebted voters who are the first to burn. It is hoped that it will be the prudent minority.
The economist's new clothes 11:02pm on 03 Nov 2009 "Economists, at least the macro variety, didn't have a good financial crisis. And they're not having much of a recovery either. Much like the UK."

There we go! It is spin time again! What does the UK not have? A financial crisis? Well, it depends how you define financial crisis, I suppose. The UK has created the biggest personal debt and house price bubble on earth, through a joint effort of bankers, estate agents, journalists, homeowners and Gordon Brown over years. This bubble is still there because the government has stuffed our tax money in any developing holes. This is the continuation of the financial madness of the last decade by new, even more lunatic means. It is an act of desperation, it is part of the crisis and it will make this an unforgettable crisis. We are still very much at the beginning!
Czech president swallows bitter pill 10:35pm on 03 Nov 2009 I'm losing my patience. I have lived here for a while and I have understood that most Britons do not want to be part of the European integration. Fair enough and understandable, given the enormous cultural discrepancies between the continent and this island. But what I do not understand is why the UK has not consequently left the EU. There wouldn't be any discussions about treaties and the threatened sovereignty and it wouldn't cost a penny any more. All the misery that the EU means for the UK would end instantly. Problem solved! Wouldn't that be the next best thing to heaven? So why is the UK in the EU. Why???
A forest of issues 7:32pm on 27 Oct 2009 Keeping oil in the ground these days, where every well is needed to keep the world going is very a silly proposal that does not help with any environmental concerns. And the "West paying countries" for such a silly move can only be the idea of people still living under the illusion of colonial hegemony.

Well, yes they are exotic, so tourists have their pictures taken next to one in the same way as they stand next to a camel when visiting the Sahara. Do camels look pleasing?
Bank reform: The radical way 7:41pm on 21 Oct 2009 If what you say is right then just combining King's and Turner's schemes would constitute a serious financial reform. I have waited more than two years to hear any official talking about serious reforms. Two at a time seems almost too much to grasp. But before we all get carried away, I do not believe that this country will see any reforms until I see them happening!
A sombre warning 00:13am on 21 Oct 2009 We had this a few times now. The governor is talking sense, publicly. Great one thinks, things must be moving in the right direction then. But then all that happens is the printing a more money and the use of taxes to stuff it right into the damn bubble and damage everybody's future even more. Labour can't win the elections, so why don't they just say okay, we had it all wrong and we have contributed to this mess, but we now use our final days to do something unpopular but inevitable. We let the damn bubble collapse and kick of the reforms that this country needs to overcome its debt addiction.
Will Czechs disappoint Tories? 01:45am on 04 Oct 2009 Dear UK. Why all the fuss? Of course, yes you hate Europe. But then, there is such an easy solution. All you have to do is leave the EU. No member of the EU, no Lisbon Treaty. It is in fact that simple. You could have your way without destroying everybody else's future. Or is that not what you want? What do you want?
BAE: Can't pay, would like to pay 9:27pm on 01 Oct 2009 That's wholly rational, in that most of the senior executives of the company weren't with the business in the period when, by its own admission, it wasn't as scrupulous in its business practices as it would now like to be.

So where are those executives that were with the business in the period in question? Whilst the company may get away with a fine, those who made the decisions should certainly not get away at all.
