'Positive action', not 'positive discrimination' 5:22pm on 20 Oct 2009 Regardless of what gender or ethnic background I am against imposed short lists from party headquarters.We already have a neutered parliament and filling it with members who owe their seat to the party leader instead of their constituents will further distance MPs from the voters.
...gone 11:19am on 16 Oct 2009 Of all the things said about MPs and expenses the mosy irritating bit is MPs & political correspondents stating that all were passed according to the rules,when the simple fact is they were not.Filkin & Graham were sacked by MPs for attempting to crack down on abuses of the system and replaced by an obedient lap dog who knew his job was only to rubber stamp any receipts and pay the money.Andrew Walker knew his place and settled for his 100,000 salary and future pension and didn't rock the boat.What Legg has partly done is to try and apply the rules as they were written at the time not as they were implemented.So please encourage MPs who are thinking of challenging his findings to take it to court,I think they will have a harder time convincing a jury that their expenses were legitimate.
Has he got a Legg to stand on? 09:14am on 13 Oct 2009 Hello,regardless of what the honourable members with a legal background say,how many of these same honourable members could stand up in court and state that all their claims were valid under the old rules of being necessary to do their job,not many I should think.As we have seen all they have to do is go to the rubber stamp committee also called the standards committee and get let of by their mates.
The baroness and the illegal immigrant 12:50pm on 22 Sep 2009 Is there a difference in the ammount of money ministers get by being reshuffled instead of resigning?Because with her expenses being looked at she might need all she can get out of the tax payer.
10p tax rebellion 6:09pm on 07 Jul 2009 At least there are a few honourable people left in parliament,the spineless pope should get his reward from his electorate.If this problem had been acted upon earlier instead of the £2.5 billion give away to try and buy a by-election where the lowest paid were ignored for political gain,and labour even managed to lose the elction.
A call for debate 11:09am on 10 Jun 2009 On the quiet we have already had electoral reform.We now have a system of government along the EU lines,non elected commissioners running the country and a house of commons that is only there for the pretence of the electorate.Poor old window dressing Harman has been replaced as deputy prime minister by someone was wasn't even voted in by his own party let alone the country,still,she cannot complain as she fully supports Brown.
Relieved and nervous 6:06pm on 05 Jun 2009 Will brown ask our unelected europe minister to publish her allowances from the european parliament,so that she is the same as other ministers? how exactly is she answerable to her constituency if she does not have one?
So we see that brown's idea of making parliament more open and fair is to stuff his cabinet with unelected cronies who have no mandate from the voters.
Last chance 9:16pm on 02 Jun 2009 General Question,as jacqui smith is voluntarily(?) stepping down from being Home secretary before the MP friendly Mr.lyon finishes his checking of what is her main house,if she is found to have twisted the rules does she get to keep her ministerial pay off?
perhaps her willingness to leave might be connected with the outcome of investigation.If all checking of MP's allowances take as long as Lyon has taken just doing this one he might be finished in time for the next but one election.
Chancellor in distress 08:28am on 02 Jun 2009 Would it matter if Darling was removed from being Chancellor.He has enjoyed the trappings and wages of being Chancellor without being anything more than Brown's front man,there was never any chance that Brown would give up the financial reigns to anyone else.If the political pundits are to be believed we have Ed "so what" Balls to look forward to.A lovely thought a Chancellor who doesn't care about the tax payers.
Westminster's answer to Britain's Got Talent 2:13pm on 01 Jun 2009 For a party that doesn't do God,Blair played his God card when he joined the speaking circuits in the U.S. no doubt to add to add more dates to his calendar & son of the manse has played his God card twice,shame no-one believes him as his actions do not match his words.
