Benefit cuts consensus? 5:40pm on 05 Oct 2009 What do you mean... "all those who sit on their backsides and do nothing"

These are the same crowd out robbing, drug taking, assaulting and raping. Modern day Vikings who if they are not doing these things are out keeping the black economy running, despite back backs, depression and the likes.

There are genuine people who need better help, trouble is they are only a small percentage of those on benefits.
What was HBOS doing? 10:23am on 05 Aug 2009 Interesting final point Robert, the focus on losses now will turn in time to the enormous profits to be made in a few years when there will be fewer competitors and effectively a small cartel.

If taxpayers feel out-done now wait till it really hits their pockets when remaining banks turn on the make buck screws.
Why tax the rich? 3:21pm on 24 Apr 2009 Tax the rich, yes I agree we should... I'm not one of them.

But the fact is we all need to pay more tax and public spending needs to reduce drastically NOW, not in one, two or three years time.

Otherwise we will be in this mire for longer, even forever.

This government is being dishonest and damaging in delaying it beyond the next election.

For Labour it is a one way bet. Miracle reelection they have five years to visit a much tougher reality on us. If not elected, leave the mess to the Tories and blame them all the way to the following election because they will have to make the hard choices.
The devil's not in the details 4:52pm on 23 Mar 2009 On the basis that most things have a value, especially when the good times return, this looks like a tempting deal for those that ran from the market early and have the cash. As for the rest of us we are stuck with assets that will remain under under water for some time, so I think I will stick with the sinking ship I know if not love and hope it rights itself.

Having been in continuous employment for 33 years and at least two recessions I have hardly noticed them.

Made redundant at the end of 2006 with an early pension and cash I feel that this recession may pass me by again.

Investments are bad but I don't rely on them, thats a future pension and I'm patient enough to wait another ten years or more.

Cash will produce less income and that probably means less discretionary spending. That will hurt the economy rather than me.

Deflation means no rising pension, but should be balanced by lower bills and a competitive environment.

I know I have been lucky, but I agree that anyone maintaining employment during these times will come out better.
Rock revival 1:40pm on 23 Feb 2009 I think shareholders might rightly feel they have been mugged by the government and now they are using the vehicle as a political tool when the bank should have been put into administration and wound-up.
Why punish savers? 10:07am on 05 Dec 2008 Well Robert, the government is always punishing the thrifty and rewarding the feckless - means testing, supporting the over-extended mortgage holders, etc

But anyway, as a saver that relies on savings for my spending, I for one will be spending less - hence impacting the recovery in a small way.

But if you multiply all the me's that's a big part of the economy gone away.

Wait for those complaints from the Tories, and the louder the complaints the more worried they are.

Let it not be forgotten that Labour are in power in large part due to Peter Mandelson. Love him or loath him he could be Labours' saviour in bringing them back from the brink.

Seems impossible... well expect him to be campaign manager in the election run-up, and who knows what will happen.

LLoyds may yet have problems digesting HBOS. Lloyds and all the other big banks may yet need to return for further funding, even including RBS despite the biggest UK rights issue already.
Meltdown Monday 07:57am on 15 Sep 2008 The markets have been predicting for months a major US bank failure, now we have it.

So if stockmarkets have been pricing this in then, yes, after some volatility maybe this will be a corner turned.
