Three extraordinary personal decisions 11:38am on 05 Jun 2009 John Hutton had been fighting his corner for more troops and cash for Afghanistan against strong opposition in No 10. he loved his job. Would he have gone if he was making progress?
It looks like the Chiefs of Staff and our lads in Helmand have suffered another slap in the face by this travesty of a Prime Minister.
Westminster's answer to Britain's Got Talent 3:54pm on 01 Jun 2009 The situation is frightening. We face huge problems nationally and internationally. But what are our political 'leaders' doing? Blaming the system, the rules, administrative errors, anything but themselves.
When one looks at the brazen fiddling, the contempt for decency, the incompetence which led them to make so many 'mistakes' and the nauseating self-absorption, it is no wonder we seem to be hurtling towards the precipice.
Brown? Words are not enough.
The sanctity of the Commons 8:04pm on 28 Nov 2008 MP Norman Baker's office was 'burgled' and computer files and other notes were removed when he was investigating the death of Dr David Kelly.
As far as I know, no-one was held accountable.

As for Brown and Smith denying they were involved in Damien Green's arrest, there is nothing they can say that I would now believe.

Baby P - It will happen again 2:04pm on 18 Nov 2008 Of course we know that social workers et al did not kill Baby P.
Much of the rage directed against Haringey Social services is due to people's impotent frustration with the failures of managers who sit at desks rather than venture on to the front line, who hide behind 'procedure' and box-ticking, who never seem to be accountable and who scapegoat junior staff to cover their own backs. We've seen it at the highest political level and see it happening at Town Hall level too.
The top Social Services managers are on extremely good salaries and benefits - and not only are they seen to be not doing their job of protecting children, they appear to be 'getting away with it'.
We are all sick of MPs, ministers, civil servants, NHS managers, bankers - the list is endless- enjoying salaries beyond the dreams of most people and not doing the job properly. And instead of being sacked without a reference they move with bonuses to other well-endowed positions and remain incompetent or even dangerous.
The sting would be drawn if occasionally - just sometimes - someone who failed was sacked and did not pick up 'compensation' and found the door to other similar positions closed to them. It would concentrate minds wonderfully.
If senior managers were more involved with the day-to-day problems facing the juniors, instead of pontificating from a desk, it might help. Had Shoesmith and senior social workers visited Baby P's sordid 'home' and smelled the stench of faeces and filth, they might have seen things differently, realised what really goes on behind the endless paperchase of reports and memos; a day spent toiling with a junior instead of at an expenses-paid junket.
Look into the face of this defenceless child. It is the face of unnecessary, preventable suffering. It could be the face of an abused neglected elderly person in a hospital or nursing home. Or a pensioner whose life-savings have been decimated.
It is the vulnerable who pay for the gross mistakes of these protected, well-rewarded incompetents. It is this which fuels the rage.

Consider 342 ... your reluctance to take on issues Labour doesn't want aired is now even more obvious.

Remember Dr David Kelly. A brave man but even he couldn't stand up to these vicious Labour reptiles when they scent blood.
Like Komodo dragons, they have poison in their mouths.
People who think this political chicanery is a good soap opera should remember that it kills.

What a weasley attempt to deny bias. You really have made it worse.
Of course the BBC having been shredded by Alistair Campbell over the death of Dr David Kelly - don't forget the BBC was correct - might make anyone wary but this apparent craven obeisance to the spin and grubby chicanery of New Labour is demeaning.
The only 'allegation' of wrong doing against Osborne comes from Brown - the same Brown who brought back the discredited Mandelson.
No doubt the BBC is scared stiff of upsetting such a vindictive cabal: Campbell, Mandelson, Brown and Blair who are in thrall to Big Money but it should try a bit harder to rediscover its backbone or give up pretending to be a public service.
Bullies will remain bullies as long as they are allowed to get away with it.
Duelling gentlemen 6:24pm on 22 Oct 2008 The BBC is the Parish Magazine of Alistair Campbell and Mandelson but I'd hoped Nick was less tainted.
Disappointed Nick makes a story of Osborne's folly in trusting an old friend who is a close mate of Deripaska but virtually ignores the bigger story of the Mandelson connection. Mandelson is a much bigger fish than Osborne and any alleged corruption on his part is of far greater concern.
Rothschild ... Mandelson ... hmmm, now what can they have in common... as well as a taste for troughing it?
