The second second time around 5:48pm on 26 Oct 2009 I've seen Millions (the Danny Boyle film) at least a dozen times, and each time, I notice a magical element that I hadn't seen (or registered) before.

It's such a simple film, but continues to delight.

Screening Process 4:48pm on 15 Sep 2009 I watched The Wizard of Oz in the back of a semi-trailer in Greensburg Kansas while I was working there on the clean-up response to a large tornado. My colleagues and I put a laptop on a large pile of relief supplies, made couches out of cardboard boxes (useful for people to pack their stuff in when picking through the rubble of their houses), closed the rear door to the trailer, and loved every minute of it.

Oddly, on the way to Greensbur (the day after the tornado touched down) we were delayed because we were driving into the remnants of the storm, so we watched Twister in our hotel room.

Wizard of Oz was better.

I don't know-- I thought that Transformers was for people in their 20s who grew up with the toys and TV show. I loved the first Michael Bay Transformers movie-- not because of the film itself (obviously) but because of what it meant to me an my peers.

I went to see the film the way it should be seen: I went to a drive-in theater in Montana, sat in the bed of a pick-up truck with several crates of beer, and enjoyed the references. Sure, the plot didn't make any sense (I recognized that even after vast quantities of cheap Budweiser) but HEY! IT'S A WALKING ROBOT!!

It was the best movie 'experience' I've ever had. And it required a movie like Transformers to make it happen.

5 Live Review: Observe And Report 7:43pm on 28 Apr 2009 Why is it that films like this come in pairs (this and Paul Blart)? I can understand some 'big idea' films coming in pairs, but why something like this? Surely they could come up with some other similar storyline ('slapstick' with regular people)... it can't be pure laziness, can it?

Can it???

I remember Deep Impact and Armageddon were an early example of this phenomenon-- again, they could have come up with another people-save-world-from-natural-disaster stories.
