BBC HD Picture Quality: some myths laid to rest 11:11am on 16 Dec 2009 A bit rate of 9.7 Mb/s vs one of 16Mb/s means less data is sent in a given time period. So a HD image using less bits will be of a lower quality. It is not rocket science! The BBC is doing HD on the cheap, but given its limited funding I can't blame it. The actual recording of HD images is full quality as I have watched BBC HD blurays and they are fine in terms of picture quality.
Changes to BBC Weather site 08:08am on 30 Nov 2009 ...what was wrong with the old weather page? It had all the info you needed, plus it used the traditional BBC weather symbols, which I always thought gave a certain uniqueness to the look and feel of BBC weather reporting. These new pages are cluttered and have half of the info the old page ever had. The updates mentioned in the article go someway to alleviating this but why fix something that was not broke in the first place? Also how about embedding the weather TV reports into the page?
The war on drugs 12:36pm on 30 Jul 2008 Why not have two categories for athletes?

1) normal without drugs

2) "enhanced" where athletes can use whatever they like

Drug testing will carry on with "normal" athletes. If they are caught, then they must compete in the enhanced categories or not at all. For those who wish compete in the enhanced category, they must be fully open about the risks of taking the performance enhancing drugs.

It would be a bit like having a car race with two categories - normally aspirated and turbocharged.
