Milan to Madrid via Manchester 1:30pm on 09 Jun 2009 The passage of Kaka' to Real came as no surprise. Personally, I never thought that Man City were even on the radar when the story broke out at the beginning of this year. To my way of thinking, the alliance of the big 15/20 European clubs is at the heart of all big name transfers eg Zidane to Real from Juve, Ronaldo from Barca to Inter to Real, and the impending deal linking Ibrahimovic to Barca from Inter which could also involve Eto'o and or Iniesta. The cynic in me leads me to believe that irrespective of what Blatter and Platini might do or say is of little or no relevance to what the big clubs alliance actually decide to do in the end. They know that the movement of big name players serves all their collective interests and they won't allow any obstacles to stand in their way.
Mourinho the loser as Lampard signs 7:13pm on 13 Aug 2008 The way I read the situation here is that Mr. Mourinho does not ran Inter but Massimo Moratti very much does. It was the Inter President who said that it was up to Lampard to make the first move if he wanted to join Inter. He said time and again that Inter were not to get involved in a public auction over the player.So where is the 'sign of power of both Chelsea......business' evident? Inter just chanced it but in no way did they force the issue. And ultimately, the duration of the player's contract extension was touted as the major stumbling block, so once Chelsea gave in on that Inter were well out of contention. And Inter's interest had started to wain some days ago.
Argentine trailblazers 8:05pm on 11 Aug 2008 It does bring it all back...we just came up from Division 2 as it was in those days...No Premiership with poncy name then...I remember the first home match too. We got thumped 4-0 by Villa...But to your correspondent who commented on the London scene at the time, I can assure you that Tottenham at that time was as cosmopolitan as it gets. Round where I lived, just off White Hart Lane, I had friends and colleagues from Europe, Americas, Aussies, Kiwis, Asians and Africa. And....now wait for it....we had a Pizza Hut just up the road in Stamford Hill and one of the first places in London to get a Mac's.
