the game was delayed by about thirty seconds from when Ferdinand scored til play was restarted. As Utd had the ball in a prime crossing position at the time, it was a very crucial part of the game, I would been upset to.

With regards to the rule changes, they should be tightening up the rules, increase the subs but take away blood bins. If a player wants stiches, or treatment, take him off with no replacement, like they do with football.

If we're being honest, if 100% of players replied say "we've all see widespread cheating" would they be hosting such a self congratulatory press day? Seems like they've hung one man out to dry (rightly in my opinion) and then said problem solved

With regards to youth development, its an impossible situation for top teams to integrate youth players into the team. If you look at Mancienne at Chelsea. He's going to be a top player in the future but looking at him playing for wolves he makes way too many mistakes and being at the cut throat end of the league and in europe they can't afford to take that chance. And most of the young English players at big clubs were bought from lower league clubs in the first place anyway. Defoe - Charlton. Richards - Oldham. Lennon - Leeds

I think along as the Burton project, english clubs should be allowed to have a local lower league feeder club. For example Man Utd have Crewe, and Tottenham have Leyton Orient. They would be allowed to loan 7-8 English players a season to get regular first team action. It helps create a core team which makes integrating them in the first team easier and gets them crucial first team experience at the ages 17-20. Plus it would ease the financial burden on the league teams, whilst giving them talented youngsters for free. Much in the same way spanish football works.

Matt, you also talk about youngsters have to be dedicated enough to play abroad. Whilst I agree with this, if they don't have what it takes to take the plunge overseas. They won't have the dedication, force of will to get in the first team. Look at Jonny Evans, when ferdinand got injured. Ferguson had no qualms in putting him in.

I tend not to pay much attention to Strictly though I am very curious to see how far Phil Tuffnel can get, he seem quite the opposite to Ramprakash and Dawson!

I tend not to agree with you on saying that argentina were struggling before with a different coach so its no surprise that they are still struggling, surely thats the reason they hired a new coach?

Maradona's insistance to select sub standard players particually their centre back (whose name escapes me) when they have an inexperienced but hugely talented centreback in Garay who plays for real madrid.

You cite the lack of defensive options for argentina, but they have quite clearly the best attacking line up overall of the whole group. Aguero, Messi, Tevez, Rodriquez. Not to mention Higuain if maradona called him up. Plus the vast experience of Veron and Zanetti and Mascherano,Gago and Cambassio in the midfield. Its takes a bad coach to cock all that up in my opinion.

Its been nothing but a car crash since he took charge. Within a month of him taking over he was in dispute with the AFA over the back room staff, Riquilme said soon after he wouldn't play for Argentina again while Maradona was there. And then there are selections, he continues to play tevez when he's got more red cards than goals in qualifing, playing Aguero on the right against brazil, and constant tinkering of tactics.

I think Maradona's got no excuses

I seem to be one of the few people that doesn't see this as some huge conspiracy against the English, the the diving ban, uefa have already retrospectively banned someone for diving. A lithuanian player against scotland and for chelsea fifa have already banned two clubs prior to the Chelsea incident. AS roma for signing Philippe Mexes from Auxerre in 06, and FC Sion earlier this year for signing and Egyptian goalie.

The problem is with the retrospective punishing for diving is that you have to prove intent. I don't believe Eduardo "dived" he saw the goalie about to clatter into him and took evasive action. Boruc stopped in time and Eduardo now looks a bit of a plum. Rooney did exactly the same thing, except Almunia didn't stop and hit Rooney, regardless of whether Rooney was on his way to the floor or not, it was a late challenge in the box... penalty!

I consider diving to be what eboue did on saturday to try and get Evra sent off, or when players run past a player and leave a boot in to make sure theres contact. Pires, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Owen have all done it in the past.

When i saw the article I had exactly the same thoughts as you, but there has been a lot a excellent performances from British sports people. I don't think Wayne Rooney has much chance of winning it this year though I hope he'll be next years winner for obvious reasons!

If Andy Murray wins the US Open, he'd get my vote for it. Failing that i'd vote for Bradley Wiggins
Are Saracens losing their soul? 1:06pm on 03 Sep 2009 I find it interesting how Rugby is increasinly having the same dilemmas football has been facing for a number of years.

As a football supporter I have never had a problem with the increasing amount of foreign players in the game as i have always felt playing with better players and having better squads would force the young English players to work harder to improve.

What I don't like about it, is when foreign players who have more or less ability are signed in preference, and as a result, their development is stifled. While Saracens are still producing good, English talent as your article states, I don't think anyone will have to worry.
Relishing Schumacher's return 1:11pm on 30 Jul 2009 I can't wait for Valencia now! Like most people have said i don't think last years race was up to much, but its all changed now!

I don't think Michael being retired for 3 years will be too much hinderance, he races motorbikes now so is still very fit, and still plays a big role in the paddock with ferrari. If he didn't know that car inside out by now, or hasn't even driven it before i'd be very surprised!

I reckon Raikkonen will be gone from f1 next year, he's always disliked the intense publicity of f1 and he'll go back to rallying in scandinavia i would imagine.

Alonso and Massa for next year (provided massa is fit) with Kubica in line to replace him
