Looking forward to a new season 4:30pm on 18 Jul 2009 Terrific article and much excitement is building up now amongst my friends and family ahead of the new season. As a United Season ticket holder, I'm excited by how our new signings will emulate the successes of previous players, if not their style (less 'diving' claims next year, one hopes!)

I just wondered whether there was a specific match or couple of matches you look forward to each season in the Premier League, Steve? For me, it always tends to be United vs Liverpool and Arsenal that I look for, although Derby days this next season should be fairly entertaining too!

These clubs all buy the wrong players too - they mst have terrible scouting parties - or really good ones nd they're all too busy partying to spot a £5m Jimmy Bullard this January or £1m Wilson Palacios last January.

Quite how 'Bellers' has raised so much bunce over his career is beyond me. he same goes for Anelka - they destroy the spirit of a dressing room, and with City's now containing three fluncy Brazilians, Bellers and Stephen Ireland, who although he preaches conversion to the 'I-just-want-tp-concentrate-on-my-football' club, is as incendary as they come, Sparky's got a lot to juggle. But then, he is on a shedload of cash himself and not withstanding Citeh's predisposition to relegate themsleves out of yo-yo habit every couple of years, has the biggest chequebook in the world to fight with, so I'm not feeling sorry for him just yet.

I find it compelling how everyone talks about Citeh, Toon Barmy and the Spurs lot without mentioning Pompey, because for me, Adams couldn't manage a yoghurt after lunch and he is so tactically inept that they are certainties for the drop. Find me three teams that will finsih below them, I say. ...'And I'll find you a man who is happy in his work perforating lavatory paper' as the great Reggie Perrin would say. Didn't he manage Portsmouth once?
Lend him like Beckham 5:21pm on 22 Jan 2009 For my club, I thought Henrik Larsson was a brilliant loan signing - Id always admired him at Celtic and to see him turn out for my beloved red devils was really special. Such a fine player to watch live, he has a lot of intelligence - I still think he'd be a good loanee now.

Ever...hmmm, tricky. Amr Zaki is technically a loan signing - and he's been class, especially in the early part of the season. A real surprise package.

Great blog as every week Gavin. Not that it should come as any higher praise than anyone else, but as a passionate writer myself, your writing stands out as immensely readable amongst the blogs on the BBC (Not that they're all bad or anything!)

Carry on the great work and good luck returning from injury.

Sheikh ya money! 3:22pm on 16 Jan 2009 Even with Kaka, City will still lose to clubs like Forest in the F.A. Cup, never win two weeks in a row, never lose three weeks in a row, and go yet another year without a trophy OF ANY KIND.

In case you hadn't relaised, there's a recession going on!! This sort of thing is happening across the country. Anyway, that's a separate point.

Apart from not replacing Friedel and Bentley (certainly the latter) it seems clear to most that Ince was a division out of his depth, at this stage in his career. He should be given the reigns at Nott'm Forest and given 18 months to turn things round, then if it works out, Premier League clubs will be right back in for him. Maybe he could even get his A-Licence too (I'm not belittling this as an acheivment, my friend is currently going for this coaching licence, and its incredibly tough.)

If the board didn't have confidence in Ince because he was inexpereinced, I guess its safe to assume that they'll go for a more mature, been-there-done-it manager. Not Tugay.

Personally, if I was Blackburn Chairman John Williams, I'd get hold of Chris Coleman. A terrific manager who is practically guaranteed (like Curbishley) to assure 10th place or thereabouts in the Premier League by March.
Wenger wise to appoint Fabregas 4:55pm on 24 Nov 2008 As for "name a Manager who would be more successful?" - J.O.S.E. M.O.U.R.I.N.H.O. just to spell it out. He would clearly be more successful.

Wenger had been great for Arsenal's youth. Indeed he is clearly the best youth-Team manager they have ever produced. But that's not his job, although his reluctance to replace established first-team footballers and therefore create a side capable of ending a four-year trophy drought of his own making would suggest he prefers the role of developing young talent to that of trying to win the EPL,CL, FA Cup, or heckfire, even the Carling Cup.

Although bringing the youngsters through is admirable, that is the job of the youth team manager at the age at which Wenger seems unable to resist meddling with, and he should have spent the £30m his chief executive told him was available in the summer (don't you just love a club who wash not just a few smalls in public, but the whole darn washbag?) His stoic refusal to do that coupled with his CLEARLY WRONG belief that Arsenal can win the title with the youth team has been his downfall. I'm sure they won't, and as United supporter who could do with one less team in the title race every year I hope they won't bring in Mourinho to sort this mess out.

Long may the media continue to eulogise over Arsenal's supposedly "beautiful football" while anyone who watched them on Saturday would have struggled to find much beauty in yet another calamitous capitulation.

Mourinho would have bought a midfielder (Muntari did for Inter) and a striker (there's an abundance out there) and got the best out of Gallas for fear of being booted out of the club. What does Wenger do? Reinstate the smoking buffoon post-haste.

C'est ludicrous.
Could Wenger shape new England? 2:59pm on 12 Nov 2008 Two words:- Calm down. Wenger may be a good youth team manager, maybe the greatest, but his job is that of FIRST-TEAM COACH. And in that facility, he hasn't won a trophy for nigh on 4 years. Get a grip, reactive, sycophantic journos.
