Where now for Everton? 1:59pm on 26 Nov 2009 Everton are a club which badly needs to move forward.

They made progress under Moyes for a couple of seasons, but as we've seen this season, they are still a vulnerable club which desperately needs investment in the team.

You get the sense with Everton that they're not far away from becoming a major force and a move to a new stadium would have been a big step forward in their progression.

It will come for them I'm sure. But at the moment, they've hit a wall both on and off the pitch. Progress has become stagnant. They're neither moving forward nor back.

I think Moyes has reached the maximum he can achieve with the current squad and a new stadium is vital for their future. They've come to an important transitional point where what happens next could make them or stagnate them.

This is a really important time in the history of Everton Football Club.
Benitez under spotlight after Champions League exit 3:36pm on 25 Nov 2009 For clubs who will never realistically make the Champions League or for those building, the Europa is a good place to be.

But for clubs who want to be and should be challenging in the Champions League, the Europa League is a pointless, worse than second rate, nothing more than troublesome competition.

Ultimately, It's the poor man's version of the CL, nothing more.

Let's be honest, every team that's in it is second rate and are only there because they can't make it into the CL and I can only see it as a frustrating, pointless carbuncle for clubs like Liverpool who want to win the CL.

The Europa isn't a reward for clubs who get knocked out of the CL, it's a further penalty.
Benitez under spotlight after Champions League exit 3:17pm on 25 Nov 2009 I think one of the biggest problems is that Benitez has spent too much on individuals and failed to build a squad.

Take Torres, Johnson and Aquilani for example - a combined fee of around £75 million. That is about the same as Arsenal's whole, yes whole squad.

And I dare say Liverpool fans would love an Arshavin, an Eduardo, a Nasri, a Van Persie, a Clichy, a Fabregas, a Walcott, a Rosicky. And would love to think they've got players like Vela, Ramsey, Denilson, Diaby, Merida, Wilshere or Gibbs showing huge potential for the future.

This isn't a dig at Liverpool fans, but there is a massive lack of depth to the Liverpool squad and the young players coming through just aren't there.

Whereas Wenger's spent little but on depth, quality and potential, Benitez has spent big on individuals and has forgotten about building a squad and young players for the future.

Aquilani cost over £20m. Much more than the cost of Fabregas, Ramsey, Diaby and Song combined.

The result is Arsenal have spent less, but have better individual players and a much stronger squad.
Benitez faces biggest test 1:41pm on 21 Oct 2009 If, after five years in charge, Benitez hasn't assembled a squad that can compete when injuries hit, then something's gone seriously wrong.

And unfortunately, the facts are there for all to see.

Without Torres, who do Liverpool have to lead the line? Voronin?

Without Gerrard or Torres, who can win them a game with a moment of magic? Only Benayoun who Benitez still doesn't always play.

Who in midfield gives them real creativity?

By now, there should be players in place to bring into the team and they're just not there. I think that's a fact.

This very bad for F1. It will leave a lot of people feeling the sport is corrupt, much like people do with athletics with regards to drugs.
