England coaches join forces to talk tactics 7:15pm on 23 Oct 2009 All three coaches have been in their jobs for fairly short periods of time. One of them is English and has been fairly unsuccessful. The other two of them are foreign and both have been relatively successful so far.

I wonder if there is any significance to that? A look at the football Premier League offers more evidence: none the "big four" (or indeed the big five if you include Manchester City) is managed by an Englishman.

Who, or rather where, are the top English coaches, in any of the big sports in this country?

Hiddink's Russian revolution still on track 4:45pm on 13 Oct 2009 FIFA's decision to seed the qualifiers is a joke. The play-offs haven't been seeded in the past, so why should they be now? If they had wanted to bring in seeding they should have done so before the qualifiers started.

It's also ludicrous that they're using the world rankings - which incorporate results from years ago - rather than performance in these qualifiers, to determine the seedings.

And all because they're worried that the big teams might not make it. Well boo-hoo.

Still, I think Ireland have a good chance of beating any team except Russia, and as an Englishman I'll be right behind them.
Ferdinand must sharpen up 10:05pm on 10 Oct 2009 Who would take his place in the starting line-up? I'm not filled with confidence at the thought of Upson, Lescott or King being in England's starting line-up for the World Cup. We just have to hope that Ferdinand gets over these lapses in concentration - he's already managed it once before, a year or two after he joined Manchester United.
My Japanese Grand Prix predictions 8:54pm on 02 Oct 2009 I simply cannot see both Red Bull drivers finishing at the front this weekend. Their form of late has been dire. I expect Lewis to win, Kimi to put on a show for his soon-to-be-former employers, and Jenson to win the WDC after another driver error from Rubens which he'll probably blame on the team.
