Well, that's not really a difficult question to answer. Defensive midfielders always make the best coaches because of the 11 players on the field, they are the most strategically placed to read the game in attack and defense.

Maradona is just a natural talent. He never thought of football as something he has to think about tactically; it just came to him naturally. He does not have a conscious understanding of what good football is. It's mostly subconscious.

Just to follow up on your point, it is really disheartening that in this age of specialisation, you can find on the BBC the same person blogging and live comm'ing for any combination of football, tennis, cricket, snooker, athletics, rugby, boxing and golf (I'm sure I've missed some), and the lack of in-depth knowledge (and sometimes even basic knowledge!) of the sport shows very easily.

Also, this trend of substituting expertise and knowledge for the 'comedy' of Dirs and Fordyce is so, so disappointing, especially coming from the self-proclaimed pinnacle of journalism that is the BBC. Since when is appealing to teenagers more important than delivering an enriching experience of the sport?

Well if we're going to get picky then at leas'T' get my alias right...

The English media (and the BBC in particular) seems to be hell-bent on perpetuating the hero/scapegoat mentality; there is always exactly ONE person who is responsible for victory/defeat, and most times neither is justified. And it's all the more infuriating this time since, a) the math has not been won yet, and b) it's not like he's done anything special. It's a TEAM effort. The TEAM has to be stressed in these silly aricles, not the individual.

Still, if there was a 'hero' for England today, surely it must be Ricky Ponting for giving Super-Fred a start by persisting with Watson's terrifying bowling, which of course Flintoff expertly maneuvered for his big score.

Why do we insist on ignoring the facts?
Flintoff denied century that means so much 11:03pm on 02 Aug 2009 I'm sick of all this, Flintoff this, hero that; you'd think he was playing on a wheelchair having just returned from war with two amputated legs, and then scored 1000 runs.

Can we all just shut up at lease until the test is done?
Flintoff - England's gladiator supreme 6:35pm on 20 Jul 2009 I find such articles, as well as Flintoff's mannerisms on taking a wicket, with all the arm stretching, footballish celebrations, not only inappropriate but potentially divisive to the team. So are we to think that no one else in the England team contributed to this victory? What will the likes of Swann, Anderson, Strauss, Cook, etc and all those guys whose contribution made the heroics of Flintoff possible in the first place be thinking reading this article?

Please don't get carried away.

De Villiers: Misunderstood or liability? 6:40pm on 02 Jul 2009 For all his faults, Peter de Villiers is absolutely right about "the "negativity" and "superiority" of the British media". I would have also added "irresponsible".

I think the British media is on a witch hunt, whose only aim is to devalue the Springboks' series win.
