Nutt gets the sack 10:24am on 31 Oct 2009 The ignorance and pomposity of politicians never ceases to amaze me. Jacqui Smith and Alan Johnson have no training in or experience of medicine and specifically addiction issues. They are essentially amateurs who owe their position to political patronage.
They therefore employ experts to give informed opinion. Mr Nutt raised some interesting and thought provoking ideas on drug use and the associated risks.
However Johnson took exception to this because it runs contrary to his view and sacked him. Johnson is a former Postman and leader of the UCW. May I suggest he uses he experience to solve the post strike rather than meddling in matters he knows nothing about.

Changing Britain's relationship with Europe 11:19am on 29 Oct 2009 Why do extreme euro-sceptics seem to see Europe as a single entity which gangs up on us poor British? The fact is we are one of the most powerful voices in the EU - we help shape policy. We have one of the biggest votes and are seen by many countries in the east as a powerful counter-balance to the likes of France and Germany. It is the continued whinging of UKIP and the like that weaken us in Europe. It is nearly 40 years since we joined and it is about time we got used to it, rather than having our national interests ruined by nutters telling silly stories about banning bent bananas and prawn flavoured crisps.
If we want the best out of Europe we should get more involved, not less - that way we can change things. In the words (sort of) of Lyndon Johnson - it is better to to inside the tent peeing out than outside the tent peeing in.
I am not an avid pro-european, but I see the benefit of our involvement in a sensible way. If the Tories now see this - good.

Hooliganism: Football's Ugly Tradition 2:38pm on 18 Oct 2009 As a football fan old enough to remember the bad old hooligan days of the 70s and 80s I find the growing trend of nostalgia for those days promulgated by films such as Green Lane, The Football Factory and The Firm as cynical at best a repulsive at worst.
Football hooligans were violent, usually racist and people with so little going on in their lives that the only way they could find any expression was in cowardly acts of mass violence usually on smaller groups or individuals.
There is nothing brave or "cool" about such people, they are to be loathed and, to a small degree, pitied.
I don't want to see any more licence payers' money wasted on any discussion of these people, leave them to history and let them rot in hell.
Move on.

Newsbeat and the BNP 6:54pm on 03 Oct 2009 I was actually very surprised at the honesty of the man. When asked "would you be happy if one of your children brought home a non british boyfriend/girlfriend?" He actually answered truthfully.

Why do Racists always assume that they are telling the truth or saying what the rest of us really feel. They don't - they only speak for other racists. Nick Griffin answered No to that question , that doesn't make him honest, it simply shows him to be a man who holds racist views.
I would answer "yes" to that question. I am also being honest, that is what I sincerely think. I also shows me to be non-racist.

Hitler believed he was right. That might make him "honest" but it didn't stop him being evil.
