Can US swim star Phelps win eight medals? 2:58pm on 08 Aug 2008 Eric the Eel isn't going to be there. I think we could challenge for medals in the men's 1500m and also both open water events.
Olympic countdown - 1 day - Golden GB 10:54am on 07 Aug 2008 One of our first genuine medal contenders is Nicola Cooke in the women's road race, while I'm not sure she will get gold (due to the pretty random nature of olympic road racing) I do think she will get a top 3 place.

However, I think it may be a bit of a slow start unless we get a suprise gold in one of the judo events, slalom canoeing, shooting or maybe equestrian I suspect we may have to wait almost a week for our first gold: Men's team sprint in the track cycling.

I hope this isn't the case as you can gurantee there would be alot of negative media as there would be nations like Chinesse Taipi, Albania, Zimbabwe and Hungary above us in the medals table. Patience might be needed.

Could Foster bear the British banner in Beijing? 09:36am on 06 Aug 2008 Should definitely be Mark Foster, I also think it would really inspire him further and hopefully go some way to making up for his disgraceful treatment in the 2004 Olympics. For a sprit swimmer to be at his 6th (or is it 5th) olympics is outstanding. He's also a thoroughly nice guy and that body is enough to turn a straight man...well...anyway.
The Olympic projection game 10:21am on 05 Aug 2008 I had seen about Barra's predictions before but I thought they involved a lot more statistical analysis including looking at world ranking, previous olympic performance, home nation factors etc. but it seems he simply regurgitates world championship results. Very simplistic and a bit dissapointing if I'm honest. I hope most other commentators continue to think double figure golds is a success rather than raising the bar too high, especially as I can't see us doing too well in the first week of competition.
