Northern Ireland's missed opportunity 09:45am on 09 Sep 2009 well done to NI for getting yourselves in this position. it seems like the last couple of campaigns you've put in some great home performances to get nearly there only to fall towards the end but this time it looks like you're ready to get over the line.

from an outsider it looks like Poland and the Czech's are no where near as good as they have been in the recent past and NI have taken advantage of that to lead them in the group. In no way do i mean that to take anything away from your performances, it's been an impressive sequence of results.

Normally i'd be supporting you today but as a Scot a NI loss could be the best hope we have of reaching the play-offs in the unlikey event that we beat the Dutch so i'm afraid i'll have to be selfish. In the far more likey even that we don't beat Holland though i'll be hoping none of my pre match desires come true and NI have won.

Not only was/is Mayweather the the best boxer in the last 10 to 15 years (arguably longer) but also his fights didn't sell. For the majority of his career his audience was very limited and this is shown by his PPV sales. Only when he fought fighters who brought their own fans (DLH, Hatton) did he do decent numbers.

As far as Haye's concerned, i think he's bitten off a bit more than he can chew, i hope i'm wrong as the Klitschko bore fest that is the heavy weight division need brightening up. He's trying to get Wlad mad on the premise that a mad fighter isn't a smart fighter. it could be his best chance so you can't blame him for that. Anyone who's actually offended by these antics needs to put it in perspective.

Boxing is full of trash talking, it's part of the game. It's no coincidence the greatest of all, Ali, was also the greatest trash talker of all.
Azinger fashions US in Europe's image 3:46pm on 22 Sep 2008 Are Bjorn and Jimenez seriously better contenders for the captiancy than Sandy Lyle....he's a multiple major champion from the era when europe made the ryder cup what it is today.

all of his contemporaries (faldo, woosie, seve, langer) have had a go yet he never get's a mention.

maybe he's not enough of a self promotionist to get his name considered.

personnaly i think he'd make a great captain.
Is Phelps really the greatest? 4:17pm on 13 Aug 2008 i was going to mention Brigit Fischer but you beat me to it.

winning golds 24 years apart and every time in between except for a boycotted games is unreal and much more impressive an acheivment than winning 11 (so far) over 2 games when the difference between the events are simply that you have to do it is a slightly different and less efficient way.

the number of swimming events should be reduced to just the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m swim plus the relays. you can use whatever stroke you fancy to get the job done.

it he's still winning golds in 2028 then open the debate, untill then i'm afraid as talented as he clearly is he's just the best olympic swimmer of alltime.
