Your questions answered - part 14 2:22pm on 27 Oct 2009 I'll third that request for a transcript. All this video only stuff on the BBC webiste is a bit tedious.

Do you speak Race? 1:20pm on 23 Oct 2009 It puzzled me that someone was offended by "Afro-Carribean" as a term. It still does. That such terms offend are driving us into an avenue where discussions on race will become harder because no-one will be able to say anything without offending. We need to get to a place where we can use such terms as Asian, Afro-carribean etc. without people being offended. I think such terms should only be regarded as offensive when they are intended in an offensive manner. Did Mark Easton intend to cause offense when using he term "asian?" Then why was that person offended? I am not offended to be called white, or european, or british, or english? Why is it that people are offended by "Afro-carribean?" Can anyone explain? There are terms such as the P word which was used for many years as an insult and one can undrstand the offence this causes despite it's origins, but why is "Afro-carribean" offensive?

It puzzles me, and I intend no offence by anything I have written by the way. It puzzles me.
Wake-up call for world peace 4:41pm on 09 Oct 2009 I like Obama as much as the next man, but frankly, this is a bit silly. He was innaugurated only 2 weeks before the deadline for nominations, and whilst he has done things subsequently which might warrant a little more attention, he has hardly done enough to warrant this. One big speech promising to renew America's relationship with the Arab world is all he has done, and America are still fighting Arabs in Iraq and Afghanistan. Indeed, Obama even chose not to keep his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay detention centre!

The committee may well have been trying to draw attention to Obama's vision, but in so doing they have made a bit of a mockery of their award. I'd love to hear what Obama said when he found out. Bet he thought it was a wind up too.
Mangini goes from bad to worse 11:48am on 06 Oct 2009 Just a small point, and rather late as well, but as a Villa fan I know that Randy Lerner did not hire Martin O'Neill. It was Doug Ellis' last act before he sold to do that. This article about Mangini does make me worry if O'Neill ever leaves though.

The fine for the water bottle is ridiculous. Better to have made him buy a crate of water for the team, or be waterboy at the next training session.

Alonso to Ferrari could herald golden age 09:55am on 02 Oct 2009 Great season in prospect. Let's just hope the contorversy fades away, and that the cars are evenly matched. I fancy that Kimi could beat Hamilton over the season because of the refuelling ban, which means light cars in qualifying, and less overtaking because everyone will be on the same loads. Massa is still perhaps one of the most underrated drivers on the grid, which surprises me. He blitzed Kimi in 2008, and yet he is still regarded and second rate. The accident might make him slower, but a brush with death might make him realise how short life is and make him faster. We can't know yet. If Massa starts strongly, Alonso will be rattled, unless Ferarri have made the Brazilian a rear gunner once again....
England discover ruthless streak 3:38pm on 28 Sep 2009 I back Strauss on this one. Cramp is to do with conditioning and fitness. It's not an injury. You can't have a runner if you're a bit tired, why have one for cramp?
Button deserves credit for rearguard fight 10:52am on 28 Sep 2009 For me, Button is not as deserving a Champion as Kimi or Lewis because he hasn't faced the sustained challenge that those two did. He has looked weak over the summer and had his moments on Sunday, but he began to pick himself up after Barrichello's 2nd stop. Those were the laps which have, barring a crash or mechanical failure, won him the championship. It's harder to be chased than to chase, and Jenson now knows this, having not been in the position before.

I still don't think he is as deserving as the Champions of the last few years, but if at the end he has the most points on the board, he will be a deserving champion, of that there can be no question.
Can football learn from rugby league's play-offs? 10:20am on 28 Sep 2009 The play-offs are a brilliant end to the championship season. They also extend the opportunity for promotion down the league by a massive amount. A mid table side that couldn't dream of automatic promotion can scrape into the playoffs by winning the last 3 games. Otherwise, the end of the season becomes much less exciting.

Should the football format be changed? well I don't think it would hurt to freshen it up, maybe add another two teams and have 5th vs 8th and 6th vs 7th in quarter finals, with the 3rd place team playing the winner of the first tie and the 4th place playing the winner of the second in the semis. The whole picking your opponents thing is interesting. It could work really well but will take a few years to bed in.

I definitely think that football can learn from Rugby, but the Grand Final concept is not one I favour for the winning of the Premiership title. Better to award the 4th Champions league place to the winners of a play-off tournament.
