What a lot of nonsense. That just shows that you know nothing about inequality and from the figures above there is clearly enough strength in depth relative to other sports in the Winter Olympics to have womens ski jumping admitted. If you take your argument to its logical conclusion then the male dominated world of the IOC could simply make all female sports wait for inclusion, because they have to wait for the IOC's perogative to invite them in. The IOC have to abide by some standard guidelines on this and the case is simple, female ski jumping should have been allowed in years ago.

Haka-attack! 12:52pm on 03 Dec 2008 I thought that the Irish version would involve marching to the pitch via the opponents dressing room , whilst banging very loud drums and shouting obscenities.
Liverpool top, but for how long? 12:59pm on 02 Dec 2008 I agree with all of that, and we might have a one point lead over Chelsea and effectively a 3 point lead over United but it should and could have been more. I fear that this is the beginning of the now regular Liverpool pre Christmas collapse. It will seem so much more painful this season because we promised a lot for longer than usual and actually dared to believe we might be on the verge of success. Sadly, if we do not improve, we will be several points down on the other side of Christmas, and we will not recover.

On a separate point about Owen, would be happy to have him back but only for a small (realistic) fee and a reasonable weekly wage. Since I suspect there is more chance of me playing for Liverpool than Michael Owen accepting a pay cut to come back, it will never happen.
Could Wenger shape new England? 4:52pm on 12 Nov 2008 As a liverpool fan I am worried. Everytime the press get on the back of Wenger and tell him he doesn't know what he is doing (usually after losing a few games on the road) he comes back the following season and sweeps all before him. It appears that once again he has found the young talent and nurtured it and they could be a truly frightening prospect in the coming years if they all develope according to plan. I just ask myself, when Liverpool will reap such rewards from their youth program and when will other clubs in the premiership follow the lead that Arsenal has set, instead of constantly trying to buy success.

By the way Phil, Arsene might not throw the youngsters in the EPL this season but he might do it next year and I would be careful about writing off teams who are full of young players. I think Mr Hansen is still trying to live down his confident assertion that Man Utd couldn't win anything with kids.
Capello will keep England grounded 1:45pm on 08 Oct 2008 I am a liverpool fan but for the moment, he has to leave out Gerrard. It is clear, from all the overwhelming evidence that Lampard and Gerrard cannot play well together. I accept that on paper they should be able to do it but they never have and it is time to stop trying. To be fair they are both in great form at the moment and clearly I love Gerrard far more than Lampard but both his performance and the performance of the team as a whole demands that Lampard starts the game with Gerrard on the bench.

That said it is Kazakstan and one would imagine the England U21 side could win this.

But I think that Newcastle's inner belief comes from the fact that they really shoudl be a big club with the number of supporters coming through the door every week. I am a liverpool man meself but they have more fans through the turnstyles and a bigger stadium than us yet they have won nothing. They should be able to compete at the highest level but the wacky races boardroom approach makes it too difficult. When will clubs learn to look at the success stories in the premiership and follow it. Man Utd's purple nosed manager got bags of time to turn it around and now look where they are and no-one in the board at Old Trafford would ever dream of appointing Dennis Wise (a complete footballing numpty by the way) as Director of football without getting the consent of Fergie first. Similarly at the Emirates where although they don't have pots of money they have built a great team. Ashley tried to do build the squad and scout young players, but unfortunately he was totally cackhanded and it was never going to take much to make King Kew walk out. Simply put he could not bring in his mate Wise over the head of Keegan and expect him to stay, and as a result I don't have much sympathy for him, he can console himself with the billions he still has left. I mean he probably has enough money to fly his kids to watch the LA galaxy every week if he wanted.
Walcott and Capello stun Croatia 08:37am on 11 Sep 2008 Here we go again. 45 minutes of international football ago, the same players were booed off the pitch in Andorra. They pitch up and beat Croatia, albeit in superb style, and all of the pundits, McNulty included, go into overload.

No doubt, it was a great performance, but what England need is to kick on from here and put in three, four or five of those kind of performances and then they will be proper contenders to actually win something.

A little bit of balance from the press would be nice. They were never as bad as the press made them out to be, and by contrast they are not as good now as they are being made out to be. the truth lies somewhere in between at the moment.

I am from Norn Iron and I think I speak for all the home nations when I say that the reaction of the fans to England is something that we just do not understand. We enjoy it when the team win and we still support them when they lose. It is bizzare to wake up this morning to read about how England will when the world cup on the back of this win, having read about how Capello, Lampard, Gerrard and co should all have been sacked for not knowcking 8 past Andorra.
Keegan exit turns heat on Ashley 5:27pm on 02 Sep 2008 This is another appaling decision. Made even worse because he waited until the transfer deadline had passed. If you were going to part company with him, a couple of months ago was the time to do it and then at least a new man would have had a chance to build his own team, now they have no manager and a team they can't change.

Unfortunately premiership teams are fast becoming play things for the seriously rich. Some of them have done okay, like at Aston Villa and even, dare I say it the Glazers at Old Trafford. But rumours persist about Abramovich interferring with the team selection even when the special needs one was there. Then you have my team, Liverpool, who have been messed about my two Americans who can't decide whether they even like each other anymore. Sadly, people like Ashley are even worse, because he is basically just a rich fan and wants to make all the decisions. I mean why bother with a manager Mike, why not just pick the team yourself and be done with it.

the soul is being ripped out of teams up and down the land and a word to the wise for Mark Hughes and Man City. it might seem like all peaches and cream just now with the millions coming in from Abu Dhabi, but don't be all that surprised if it all ends in tears in 3 or 4 years time when it turns out money isn't the only thing required to win trophies.
Poulter's chance to reward captain's faith 1:13pm on 01 Sep 2008 There are a number of people backing Faldo in this whole affair but I would like to point out that because Faldo was a great player does not mean he will be a great manager of the team. In fact it is quite often the reverse. Tiger is a great player but is rubbish playing in a team as his ryder cup record demonstrates. I think the way he has handled the whole affair has been poor and loaded pressure onto Poulter. Not sure he should have picked Clarke, but surely if he was thinking of picking Poulter in the team, he should have had a quiet word with him (everyone seems to think he had a quiet word anyway) and told him to get himself up to Gleneagles and play. that would have made his choice so much less controversial.
