Orange's 'unlimited' iPhone 1:27pm on 04 Nov 2009 @45 It's not the limit that's the real problem, they're entitled to impose one if they wish, it's the way it's being advertised. If something has a 750mb cap then it's not Unlimited is it? Why are they allowed to advertise it as such?

And I agree with comments about Android and the HTC Hero. I have one and will never look back. Beats the iphone hands down in my opinion.
Who wins from an Orange iPhone? 1:11pm on 28 Sep 2009 It's an interesting development, but Orange are going to have to improve their data charges to compete. The recent release of the HTC Hero shows they're still reluctant to give out unlimited data plans (perhaps that's why their network performs better?) Depending on the length of contract you take out you get either 500MB anytime internet per month or 3 month's free off-peak internet, after which you have to pay a monthly fee. For a phone that's built around the net and is always connected, that's just not good enough. Compare it to T-Mobile's offering on the same phone... they state that you HAVE to have unlimited internet with the Hero and give it for free.

Can you imagine buying an iPhone and having a restriction placed on your data usage? Didn't think so.
YouTube row reflects online minefield 6:59pm on 09 Mar 2009 Unfortunately PRS seem to have a habit of causing problems for people in the UK. I remember them forcing the owner of a small musical instrument shop near me to purchase a licence as the people in his shop trying out instruments were playing well known songs.

I appreciate that artists have to make a living, but are such draconian methods really helping? As the legal ways to view content online disappear, the average consumer is probably either going to find an illegal alternative (without necessarily knowing it is illegal) or not watch at all, thus losing the artist potential revenue.

I think it's about time that someone stood up to the PRS, and a business the size of Google is probably the only one that could do such a thing.

Strange that. All 3 computers in my house run Windows yet unless we're watching videos or downloading files there isn't much data usage.

However, using an alternative OS, such as Linux, might actually increase usage. For example, if Rory were to run Ubuntu (a fine OS, which I have installed a few times in the past), he would need to install some packages that don't come as standard in order to get simple things like MP3 playback (I'll confess it's been a while since I used Ubuntu so this might be standard now, I don't know). And on top of that there's a release close to twice a year which will be quite bad for the download limits.

The simplest thing is to do what I have done... move to a package which give truly unlimited bandwidth. I did this over a year ago and haven't looked back!
No defence for 'stealing' music 12:55pm on 03 Jul 2008 Perhaps when the music industry can sort out their pricing (especially pricing across international borders) then maybe people will be less inclined to download music.

As a quick example, I recently wanted to purchase a CD so I looked on Amazon, where it was listed at GBP17.99. So I looked at the marketplace on Amazon and was able to order the exact same CD from America for GBP9.50, which included delivery from America.

As another example, the new Coldplay album is 10USD on Amazon's US site but GBP9 on the UK version.
