Monty pencils in Celtic Manor dozen 00:34am on 27 Aug 2009 Re 18. You are missing the point. Of course he should have an idea as to who he wants to play, his failure is in talking to the media about it.

We have seen from British Lions tours the demorilising impact of the coach announcing to the press that he knows his test team at the start of the tour, and whilst IM probably did have a pretty good idea of his preferred team at the start of the tour this year, he is too good a man manager to say so.

In Ryder Cup it is particuarly important since the captain doesn't get to choose the majority of the team in any case. He should be making every effort to keep on good terms with as many.

Lets hope Sandy Lyle can get a couple of early tournament vistories in 2010.
Monty pencils in Celtic Manor dozen 5:41pm on 26 Aug 2009 I'm afraid that this may be another example of why Monty shouldn't be captain. If you are a European golfer, would you like to hear that monty already has written down his preferred team.

Whoever the next Ross Fisher or Rory McIlroy is, he wants to know that Monty has an open mind, likewise Garcia & Co should be left in no doubt that they have to fight for their places.

2005 and all that 00:13am on 01 Jul 2009 The one thing that never seems to get a mention from the series is the caught behind decision that won the game for us at Edgbaston. I suspect that had the same decision gone against us we would still be moaning about it today. To their immense credit the Aussies have behaved with tremendous sportsmanship both during and in the years follwoing the series.

When we see the heated debate that continues to follow the British Lions series and practically every football match on the planet, the positive way this reflects on cricket and australian cricket in paricular should not go without mention.

He is also a better tackler, and shouldn't be dismissed just because of a couple of poor kicks.

Would like to see martyn williams and ryan jones have a good game at the weekend. Williams is a class act but i'm not sure i would want to go into the first test with a new back row partnership.

Not Irish. Agree there is a very strong case for Croft and Williams, and I originally had MW pencilled in before deciding to go with the established partnership. In general though the back row and the second prop (Jenkins has to play) are very much up for grabs. Most of the back line should be pencilled in based on the evidence of the tour to date and the 6N, the second winger is a tough call. For me at the moment it is between the pace of monje and the all round game of h'penny, would certianly like to see the latter get a run out in a decent starting XV.
