The new PM weather forecast... 6:04pm on 16 Oct 2009 I like this forecast, but it still suffers from the universal error of being allocate far too little time. The speed of the shipping forecast is slow enough for people to take it in. The current short slot on all BBC channels means the speaker needs to gabble to get everything in in the time allowed.

I do notice that this requirement for rushed speech does not apply to advertisements for BBC commercial activities, programmes and even details of speakers latest plays, books, films, etc.

The PM Glass Box. 5:28pm on 17 Jun 2009 AM I the only one who is horrified by the utter hypocrisy of Martin McGuinness? He complained on the programme tonight about people being driven from their homes by fear of the local community. How on earth did this man gain his present undeserved position of power, except by instilling fear in a large section of the Northern Ireland Community?
Digital Britain. 5:53pm on 16 Jun 2009 I live ONLY 20 miles from the capital of Wales and I am considered to have broadband because my local exchange is equipped for it.

Unfortunately I do not ACTUALLY have it because I am "too far from the exchange" according to BT. I am less than three miles as the crow flies from the exchange and I am not "in the wilds"; there is a 30mph limit almost all the way.

Now my TV service is to be shut off in six months time unless I buy a new TV set (according to the approved retailer) and there is (according to BT) "no prospect of improvement in the phone lines in the foreseeable future.

Please, what is someone under 75, living on a pension, with just enough work pension not to get any benefits supposed to do? No TV, either by aerial or by broadband, and now a forecast of no radio either.

Perhaps the intention is that I should be so bored that I die soon and save the Government money?
The prime minister is safe - for now 09:16am on 09 Jun 2009 Has nobody in the media thought about this from the point of view of a would-be leader of the Labour Party?

Consider - which is better FOR ME? Should I push Gordon now, take over the party, and very possibly lose the next election, OR should I let Gordon lose the next election and THEN take over?

Which ambitious politician would not choose the latter path?

That's why Gordon is safe until the next election.
Sprinting to the end 08:40am on 15 Apr 2009 I would also like to support Mappex's call for the BBC to investigate why charitable funds are being used to fund political activities.
Beryl Bainbridge and the Liverpool accent. 5:48pm on 22 Jan 2009 Certain announcers and newsreaders with Northern Ireland accents defeat me completely. By the time I have worked out that "High money pints ..." at the start of a sentence actually means "How many pounds ..." I have lost the rest of the sentence.

PLEASE give them elocution lessons if you want to use these people as newsreaders and/or announcers.
Be a critic for an evening... 6:08pm on 24 Mar 2008 If the Minister who expressed a need to minimise young people taking up smoking actually meant what she said, she would put a bill up to parliament to make nicotine, or cigarettes, or whatever is appropriate, a Class C drug and illegal to buy, sell or possess. Anything less is simply hypocrisy and shows that getting tax revenues in is more important than saving lives.
