Hughes harshly treated by Man City 11:17am on 20 Dec 2009 It's always surprising that a player who played at the top level for so long could be as tactically inept as Mark Hughes undoubtedly is. As a Welsh fan I'll never forgive him for sticking with 4-5-1 in the EURO 2004 playoff against Russia, when we were an away goal down and thus HAD to score twice in about half an hour. Then he eventually brought on another striker and...played him of the left wing, as a straight replacement. Utterly clueless.

The 'team' he's built at citeh is disjointed and uneven, and he deserved to be sacked. The level for a manager of his calibre is smaller teams like Blackburn and he should have stayed there rather than overstretching himself.

The unknown soldier 05:02am on 12 Oct 2009 this 'story' reminds me of one that appeared in the sun about how the home of some 'soldiers' had been vandalised by 'muslims' but it turned out the whole thing was made up. but the fact he says it was a solider who was hurt, and not simply an unnamed member of the public, suggests it's being embellished, if not made up entirely, for emotive effect.

They'll do well to get any away points in the CL at this rate, and I can see them dropping them at home in this, the weakest group of the lot.

Defeat shouldn't mask England's progress 3:06pm on 11 Sep 2009 If getting completely outplayed and humiliated by a team whowere slow, technically imprecise and lacked any kind of physical presence (I only saw a handful of tackles throughout the entire game) makes for a 'successful' tournament, I'd hate to see them have an unseccesful one. For such a poor team to reach the final tells us all we need to know about the quality of the international women's game - about on a par with a pub team.
How early should something be done? 3:17pm on 04 Sep 2009 The problem is that so long as we have a government who financially rewards people for breeding successfully, regardless of their suitability as parents, we are going to have more and more inappropriate parents who are totally incapable of raising emotionally well-rounded productive members of society.

Having children must stop being a taxpayer-funded meal ticket for life and an excuse not to work, and become the reasoned decision of a person who can stand on their own two feet and take responsability for their own decisions and for their own families.

Take away the financial incentives and many people who really would be better off not having children, at least until they've had the help and support they need to get their own lives sorted out and find stable employment, would lose the incentive and might take advantage of the free contraception that is already readily available in family planning clinics throughout the land.

In a world and a country that is already seriously over-populated, it would be foolish not to seriously look into this in rational and impassive manner.
Benitez and O'Neill on the offensive 6:16pm on 25 Aug 2009 Last season Man United lost 4 games all season. The season before , they won after losing 5, and the same the season before that too, as did chelsea when they won it. This means Liverpool must realistically only lose 2-3 more games out of the next 36. Sorry, I just can't see it happening, not with this team.

Liverpool 'title contenders'?
