BBC - Proms - Prom 22: A Celebration of Classic MGM Film Musicals! 8:14pm on 03 Aug 2009 PROM 22: MGM Film Musicals.

Every day (well almost) I bless those who set up the BBC.
Can you imagine this Prom with 10 to 20 minutes in the hour of advertising?

It is hard to understand why the presentation often seems to be a weak link. The BBC News is the worst case at present i.e. a background of flashing lights and banging drums.

Absolutely fantastic: the orchestra, the singers, the conductor: a joy from beginning to the end.

Also a new record: after keeping us on tenterhooks for years by talking (shouting) right up to the start of the music, the presenters at last managed to keep talking (shouting) after the music had started congratulations!

Can anyone tell me whether it is correct that some continental stations broadcast the Proms but have their own presenters?

The question is who is employing these supposed seekers after the truth. They have presumably got what they wanted: the public have certainly not got what they needed.

Swine flu coverage 11:28pm on 29 Apr 2009 It is at times like this, when the media is really needed, that its shortcomings are most obvious.
How do we know what is complete and factually correct, slanted, politically motivated , overblown to fill pages or perhaps dramatised to make headlines?
We will probably find out during page-filling arguments six months or so after it is all over.
Wednesday, 22 April, 2009 11:18pm on 22 Apr 2009 No one seems to be able to quote accurate figures to a thousand billions or so: the estimates also change from month to month.
The bankers should be able to help us with estimates: they created the problem. They could help us even more if they gave some of it back.
It is rather dismaying to watch the politicians being wise after the event – nothing seems to change except the “dole” queues.

A number of the war-time Q-ships (heavily-armed and disguised merchant ships) with orders to blow pirates out of the water would work wonders.
