Monday 3 August 2009 09:19am on 04 Aug 2009 Rorschach tests been with us since my university days many eons ago. I got around the problem by copying someone in a film who when he was subjected to the test replied it was some sexual activity. After repeating the same answer to each one they either thought I was some deviant pervert, mad or that they just gave up.
I have always had doubts about myself ever since!!!
The NHS: At What Cost? 9:30pm on 27 Jul 2009 Nurses should get back to nursing instead of their "career progression" into management or pseudo doctors, (drs.on the cheap)Nursing in the past was to care for the patient and not do all the other administrative tasks.
Bring back the Matron and pay cleaners the rate for the job so that Wards are kept clean.
Managers should spend less time in meetings/seminars.
Let the clinical staff make the decisions on need and priority instead of budget considerations.
Stop NICE & drug firms ripping off those who need expensive drugs.
Fine those who don't turn up for appointments or who tie up Doctors' surgeries with minor complaints, getting pills and not using them.
My wife worked in the Health service for 20 years and experienced a recent hospital operation where nurses did not know what treatment she had nor took the trouble to examine her or read her notes. Nurses were pulled off the Ward to do a "deep clean". Half the wards were empty due to cuts in nursing staff.

I read Today that we are going to build more wind farms BUT they will be made abroad. A Major water pipe line going through Lancashire and Merseyside but the pipes are made in Slovakia and "coated" in Holland.

This Government, and previous ones, has flogged off most of our industry to Japan, China and India plus a plethora of European countries.
Getting a degree is a waste of money and yet another Government ploy to keep the unemployment numbers down for at least 4-5 years, then they emerge with no job to find and a massive debt to pay off-some hope!!!
I tell young people today to go out nad find work as soon as you leave school, but even as many have written above, it is virtually impossible unless you are prepared to work for less than minimum wage, have no contract of employment and can be fired at a whim.

We will get some talking heads on Newsnight garbling nothing of use and talking in generalities, as Neil wrote above. I feel I will be on suicide watch after the programme and I feel sorry for young people out of work and angry. BUT THERE I GO AS BAD AS THE POLITICIANS, CROCODILE TEARS AND HAND WRINGING WITH NO SOLUTIONS. SORRY? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN OR DO TO GET PEOPLE IN WORK?
I should not sign myself "angry" but "flipping angry"!! the moderator preventS me using a more expletive word!!!

Friday 22 May 2009 08:23am on 23 May 2009 I can't wait for a Tory Government/election for all those who blog on this site will have nothing to say, as all our troubles will be over as Cameron sweeps into power smirking and promising all over his face.
If I was a public servant in the public sector I would be very afraid.
I am not repeating my blog made some 6 months ago but just to remind you of a few.
The privatisation of schools and hospitals as they are all put into Trusts.(This Tory Govt. is doing this anyway) The end of national pay scales-you negotiate your own worth. The end of Final salary pensions you may recall what I call the "equality of misery" theory-if we can't have it the neither can you debate.
Anyway I heard it all the last few weeks, getting boring as well as bullying. Soon the Euro election will put my party and Brown in a turmoil again so the debate will move on until the election which, despite all your wishes, will be at the bitter end of next June.

The politicians know they have at least another 12 months to plan for some of their "early retirements". Then we might get back a Labour Party that looks after the rest of us rather than the City and Bankers.
Wednesday 20th May 2009 4:48pm on 21 May 2009 Gurubear-You worry me! When I find myself agreeing withwhat someone says I begin to question whether I (you) are right. The media now controls public opinion and "none of us not wishing to appear a fool" as Hans Anderson says, we go along with it.
I might bump into Hazel B tonight as she often frequents the boozer where I drink on a Thursday. Look how the media are hounding her in order to move another minister out. Whether she deserves it or not is another debate, but it demonstrates the media power. They won't give up until she goes then they move on like a pack of wolves to another victim. We regard it as a spectator sport!!
Wednesday 20th May 2009 06:21am on 21 May 2009 Gurubear (posting 1) I couldn't agree more. As I blogged the other day, why have an election to put in another lot of different party MP's who have been at the trough but probably not been caught--yet!

The party system is dieing if not dead. The public have had enough of politicians and I speak as a Labour Party worker, local secretary and Cllr. In my area I can count on 3 activists and we three managed to buck the trend last year and got two Labour gains!! (Shades of Gideon and the drinking at the pool?)
Whenever the election comes we will have to re-build from the mess but first have MP's who WE pick and in whom WE trust. An election now with Cameron's lot in. Things can't be worse? Just watch these blogs in two year's time.
Tuesday 19th May 2009 10:55pm on 19 May 2009 Well at last Newsnight panel tonight has caught up with what I have been blogging over a year, that the old party system has gone. The Whigs went, the Liberal party went, old Tory went and now New Labour, my party has gone. Well it was really Old Tory.

That is why all the talk of an election without reform is a nonsense. It will be the same old corrupt lot this time with a Tory landslide. As someone said tonight we could be sliding to an American system.

Personally I am disgusted with the lot of them. I just wish we could find out how long this has been going on and how much they hsve ripped us off for the last 100 years or whenever this corrupt syatem came in.

as I have retired after 40 years teaching and a union officer, as well as a Governor of two schools and currently back working in a primary school, you might think I know just a little of what is going on in schools.
What Brown has proposed today is a nonsense. Local Authorities (they dropped the word "education" years ago!) monitor schools with problems well before Ofsted put their great muddy boots all over them and fling them into the "Notice of Improvement" catagory or even "special Measures". The school I am working in has to improve its writing to try to gain more level 4's and it is in an extremely deprived area where children do not come to school "fully loaded" with language which the pupils of a local Primary school where I am a Governor do. So we are having to work extremely hard to give them that language before they can even attempt even level 3 or 4 and hoepfully a level 5.

So which is the "failing school" certainly not where I am working where teachers are trying their best for their pupils. So Brown's answer?-- to put the parents on our backs as well as every other "expert" as "everyyone has been to school" and knows what it is all about. Ed Balls last week stated the bleeding obvious that teachers need to teach language and speech. What does he think we have been doing?

This Governmnet does not trust teachers to get on with the job.
As for Sats schools spend and inordinate ammount of time coaching and running through test papers in order to be seen as a "good" school often at the expense of other subjects.

It is about time MP's and Balls/Brown spent a few weeks at a time in a school to see what is really going on rather than the prepared PR visits they undertake. I noticed Brown in a school yesterday as well as Cameron.

I am off now to continue the "coaching" as Sats are coming up in a few week's time which is exactly what we need to show pupils where they are failing and by implication teachers. Just what disadvantaged children need to boost their esteem??!!
Tuesday, 5 May, 2009 8:14pm on 05 May 2009 My letter in today's Times says it all. However Gordon will only go if he is forced out so nothing will happen until after the Euro/Council elections if anyone has the guts to stand against him. Hoping like MicCawber for "something to turn up".
Unfortunately after the 2010 General Election something will and you will have to live with another 18 years of Tories who to date have no answer for anything- but that is Democracy for you.
