Reading the Kindle 12:27pm on 19 Oct 2009 Looks more and more like a desperate attempt to make money out of the gullible few before moving on.
What is it? Well its a computer that's been disabled, for the price of a working computer that will only cost you a lot of money to use.
I read a lot and this thing doesn't look ergonomic, or even portable in the way a book is. I can bash book around, leave it on the floor and tread on it and it still works. I regularly doze off and drop books which work when I pick them up.
I write notes on them and fill in crosswords in newspapers. This has none of that. I can pick up a book in a bookstore and scan it and reject it and it costs me nothing. With this is will cost me $9.99 to find out its complete rubbish.
All it has is the ability of the provider to charge a lot more for a lot less.
This isnt for me its for them, no wonder they're pushing it.

If my liabilities exceed my assets I'm in regarded as being in trouble.
The same for banks seems to be some kind of benefit.
We are always told that shares can go down as well as up. The down part seems to take the city completely by surprise.
I'm sure I could make so much more money if I was allowed to overextend myself the way the banks do.
We have already paid for the banks overextending themselves with a big crash. We will continue to pay for a long time.
Your PS suggesting Mutuals sounds good - oh hang on we were forced to demutualise all the old ones. Now if we could have proper mutuals that were impervious to demutualisation... we'd be left with the government holding all the debt the banks...
They wernt too big to fail - they were too big to continue!

It doesn't matter if we argue about it at 512K like I do at home or 3MB in a traffic jam on the M25 while we have people who have no clue about technology writing reports about it it will be like the M25 - add more lanes and get more people queuing: more wasted lives, more pointless web content.
As for BAE - international law will mean they have to be punished. And that means either the SFO or the US bolstering their industries and strengthening the special relationship by being morally superior.

So your saying the free market doesn't work and/or more accurately technology and British management don't mix.
Having worked for a British company developing state of the art fibre optic components 20 years ago I fall about laughing at them now struggling to provide technology they HAD 20 years ago but sidelined to pay for advertising instead and seem to have lost.

Those companies either should have known what they were buying with 3G or should not have played at all. Brown might be an idiot - but not as stupid as those who joined in the auction and apparently payed over the odds for something they obviously knew nothing about. A fool and shareholders money and all that.

OK anyone fancy a small mafia style protection racket? Need the wife bumping off?

The special relationship with the US is 'what can the US get away with while seeing how high the UK will jump'. If we don't prosecute BAE for its crimes the US will - its already investigating! We don't have the leverage to get them to drop the case as we did with BA in the Laker farce.
BAE will be effectively destroyed as an international business. The US will pick up any work bribing and corrupting small nations for what money they have - and they will do it with relish while laughing (probably directly in our face by then) about how important the special relationship is.
Its not a question of whether BAE should be punished but how and by whom.

If we don't 'shoot ourselves in the foot' the US will take a head shot.
PM: 'We'll cut with Germany, France and the US' 12:08pm on 15 Sep 2009 Tricky choice for the PM - a) to lie to us as he has done and say the economy is going to recover or b) tell the truth and maybe instigate the second dip in what will almost certainly be a double-double-double dip recession until a government finally wakes up to the fact the banks are the problem not the solution.
Alas he's stupid enough to think a) might get him another term so we'll have the tories in next and b) wont happen until even the union leaders are out of work and cant take the blame anymore.

Unless sense is accidentally heeded and the banks are allowed to collapse gracelessly as should have happened last time. They are after all the cause of the problem not the solution as their marketing departments try to tell you.
Why are companies not borrowing? 10:54am on 10 Sep 2009 When one bubble bursts another one starts to expand....
Just because its an incredibly complicated system doesn't mean it isnt a Ponzi scheme at heart.
