Haye does what he has to do 01:00am on 09 Nov 2009 Boxing fans know Akinwande was never a "real" heavyweight champion but if we're recognising the belts then he deserves his due.
He was WBO champion in 96-97 - Joe Calzaghe became WBO super-middleweight champ in 97 yet I never hear anyone saying he wasn't a proper world champion then. It shouldn't matter what other champions were about.
Same with Terry Marsh. Everyone considers him a former light-welter world champ yet no one was bothered about the IBF belt back in 87.
Nowadays there are big fights for the IBO belt. Are these fighters true world champs?
This isn't a dig about Akinwande or any other fighter but just to highlight why it's blx to put so much faith in what belt any one boxer holds.
As for Haye, job done move on. I'd challenge any fighter to look good against Valuev.
Cricket misses the point again 09:52am on 02 Sep 2009 This isn't the first time fans have been shafted at an international match at Old Trafford.
I remember the Saturday (day three) of the Ashes Test in 2005 when it rained nearly all day yet they deliberately went out to make sure there were just enough overs bowled that fans didn't get a full refund, then went off again.
A mate of mine, mainly a football fan but who loves his cricket, said they could stuff it and hasn't been back to a Test match since. I bet many fans will be saying the same again after yesterday, full refund or not.

Not really mate although the culprits were never found. But it was enough to warrant a warning from Cricket Australia to their own fans. Yes, they used the word "k*ffir" but a lot of Aussies or Englishmen would know that word too. Unlikely a South African is going to go and cheer his team then abuse two of his own players.

Yes, they clapped Smith but what about the racial abuse dished out to the black South African players during their previous tour of Australia in 2006? And the mocking of the distressed Simon Jones at Brisbane in 2002 when he was clearly in agony after rupturing his knee?
Also, if this was a tour of Australia most people in England would be caught up in the Premier League than would be staying up to watch the cricket. So it cuts both ways.
And you ask is the Landy-Clarke event a true representation of Australian sport? Yes, in the 1950s. Is foul-mouthed sledging a true representation of Australian sport of the last 15 years?
bondifireman (No.20) Ian Botham was the least successful captain we've had in the past 40 years. Others who would have got in the Aussie side include Tony Greig, David Gower and possibly Michael Vaughan.

Australia has an awful lot going for it and they've been fantastic at cricket for the past 20 years. But a more balanced piece when making comparisons to England would be welcome.

What you mean is IF Australia were a lot better than they are now they'd be 4-0 up.

Facts

1 Australia were unable to bowl England out at Cardiff. Nothing lucky about it, gritty tail-end batting and poor captaincy.
2 England beat Australia by more than 100 runs at Lord's. They were never chasing over 500 successfully.
3 Australia would not necessarily have won at Edgbaston but for the rain. England would in all probability scored a lot more runs in their first innings if they didn't have to chase quick runs. We were the only team in with a chance of winning that game.

Headingley was an abomination but that was a one-off in the series so far. It's 1-1 and we deserve to be 1-1,

No not the cricket but most of the bloggers on here. Yes, we've had a terribly poor game but it'll be 1-1 going into the last match. Win that, and we can, and you'll all be back on the bandwagon. Don't bother.
