Torture allegations and UK-US relations 12:54pm on 05 Feb 2009 Of course we have been complicit in torture. We are Britain, we have a post grad degree in the subject.

Wake up. You don't think that we would have our wonderful way of life, standard of living, great institutions, safe streets etc without it. It is how you get sensitive information from people.

One trick is to do it without the press reporting it, which is a lot more difficult here than in many other nations. The other is to ensure that we have 'allies' who we can trust and who trust us to cover up any unfortunate 'leaks'.

Of course we could always have more bombings and terror on our streets if you would prefer it.
How the financial crisis could hit London 2012 09:52am on 01 Oct 2008 With the building trade grinding to a halt and work increasingly hard to come by how about some hard negotiating to get costs down!
New story for China? 09:24am on 23 Aug 2008 What will witnessing incredibly biased judging in events such as the boxing and taekwondo do for the way the Chinese people see themselves and just as importantly how the rest of the world see them?
Will they think that cheating is acceptable behaviour on the world stage and if so how will they fair as their economy opens up? How will the rest of the world treat them? Will they be received with suspicion or openness?
These Olympics may have set China back badly when it could so easily have been the opposite!
