The BBC should not be censoring replies on this serious matter in order to silence a proper debate.

These revelations, and there will be revelations, will simply put those people and organisations involved under even more pressure over their continued silence.

The BBC cannot be seen to be censoring debate on this issue.
Copenhagen Countdown: 17 days 2:41pm on 23 Nov 2009 Statement from Global Warming Policy Foundation: Lord Lawson Calls For Public Inquiry Into CRU Data Affair

In response to recent revelations contained in leaked e-mails originating from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, Lord Lawson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the GWPF, has called for a rigorous and independent inquiry into the matter. While reserving judgment on the contents of the e-mails, Lord Lawson said these are very serious issues and allegations that reach to the heart of scientific integrity and credibility:

"Astonishingly, what appears, at least at first blush, to have emerged is that (a) the scientists have been manipulating the raw temperature figures to show a relentlessly rising global warming trend; (b) they have consistently refused outsiders access to the raw data; (c) the scientists have been trying to avoid freedom of information requests; and (d) they have been discussing ways to prevent papers by dissenting scientists being published in learned journals."

"There may be a perfectly innocent explanation. But what is clear is that the integrity of the scientific evidence on which not merely the British Government, but other countries, too, through the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, claim to base far-reaching and hugely expensive policy decisions, has been called into question. And the reputation of British science has been seriously tarnished. A high-level independent inquiry must be set up without delay."

Lord Lawson added: "Since the CRU is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and is part of the University of East Anglia, we should call on Edmund Wallis, the chairman of the NERC and Brandon Gough, the Chancellor of the UEA, to jointly commission an independent inquiry into the revelations, including, of course, their veracity."

Professsor David Henderson, the Chairman of the Academic Advisory Council of the GWPF said: "The evolution of climate policies needs to be linked to a process of inquiry, review and advice that is more open, thorough, balanced and objective than is now the case. This is the mission of the Global Warming Policy Foundation."

Copenhagen Countdown: 17 days 12:36pm on 23 Nov 2009 The BBC's silence on the leak and the contents of these emails is eroding confidence in the reporting of science. Also censoring comments on this blog is damning.

The BBC is a public service broadcaster, it is not the Guardian nor RealClimate where censorship is now the norm.

People have legitimate concerns on the way this story has been handled by BBC reporters and correspondents.

A balanced approach to climate change 4:48pm on 13 Nov 2009 It is quite entertaining to see a bunch of 'warmists' being perplexed by the increase in scepticism. Ordinary people lost trust in politics and the press ages ago. Now eco-campaigning scientists and scare mongering environmentalists are starting to get in the neck too. People will simply not make drastic changes to their lives and pay more in taxes and energy costs on the basis of a flawed hypothesis.

All the hockey stick curves were peer-reviewed and still beng published even though we know they have been thoroughly debunked.

The claim of warming in the Antarctica was peer-reviewed and published without the merest qualm when it is clear that those involved invented data were none exists.

All of Jim Hansen's papers over the past 30 years that predicted dramatic increases in temperatures and ocean levels were all peer-reviewed and all were ultimately found to be in serious error.

All of the studies that "proved" man-made climate change were peer-reviewed and still they don't have the data - 10 years of cooling and counting.

What scientists are beginning to realise that in the public mind peer-review is now seen as an integral part of the AGW scam. The journal gate-keepers just reinforce the notion of what constitues "accepted" science and what doesn't.

Not just newspapers Brian, BBC Scotland, through it's various news programmes, has been the mouthpiece for the Labour party for as long as I can remember.
