Flintoff - England's gladiator supreme 01:23am on 21 Jul 2009 What the undeniably talented Freddie could have achieved if form and injuries had been different, we'll never know, but he has given the cricketing world some Botham-esque moments - not many, but enough that he will live on in the memory for years to come.

He was on top form on the 5th morning, and England only hope he can keep that level of aggressive accuracy up for the rest of the series: if so we will win the Ashes back, and that would be a fitting way to leave the Test stage.
Is the web's amateur hour over? 12:00pm on 08 Jun 2009 Many of the boundaries and barriers to the masses joining in and creating and editing content online have been stripped away, empowering the public to take control or collaborate.

The problem is there isn't always a gate-keeper to make sure of the validity or quality of the content or information, causing the web to be filled with hearsay and misinformation.

It has made a massive difference to the web, opening up to the man on the street (with access to an internet connection) but has created alot of 'noise' muddying the waters of the Internet.

And yes, there is a fine line to be drawn between alerting the general public to the potential danger and encouraging panic. A very difficult subject for a PSB.
New look for the Magazine 6:47pm on 29 Apr 2009 The white heading text - particularly smaller headings - is difficult to read against some of the orange fades, a darker colour, maybe a burnt orange etc. would stand out far better.

Layout looks fine now its widescreen.

He just mixes the products and doesn't get involved as he has no interest and doesn't make any effort in looking after costing.

Turns out, the costing loses the test for their team and Ben is quite happy to pass his buck along the line and blame the error on Paula, erm, hang on, sorry Sir Alan, personally I have to disagree on this firing.
BBC News radar 7:30pm on 04 Apr 2009 I like the 'river of news' idea of the News Radar, where news junkies can get their fix in real-time of the latest news. check boxes to select certain areas to follow might be a good idea, but then if you want a specific subject, you would go to that section anyway.

The original publication time and last update time are good features - this information should appear in this way on the actual story page itself.

On the design/layout: page width far too wide (which I assume would have a sidebar in a finished release) which is partly why the feint grey section text appears visually adrift of the headline/abstract.
Causing offence by accident 00:19am on 12 Mar 2009 That's the problem with all the myriad of social software, fee tools and applications that become an integral part of our lives, and even used regularly for work purposes.

You have to trust that the people behind it can keep it going and reliable in order to honour the faith we put in by signing up.

Twitter has become a valuable tool for news producers: at my paper we have a Twitter feed that also powers our facebook status, and if that became buggy like in your experience or stopped working it would impact on our audiences perception of us well as the tool in question.
England player ratings 09:48am on 11 Mar 2009 Broad still has a way to go as a bowling all-rounder, 8 probably is a bit generous, but he is clearly maturing all the time and looks far more promising with the addition of his useful batting than any of the other recent crop seamers: particularly a waning Harmison, Plunkett, Saj Mahmood and Pattinson.

The no.3 debate continues, maybe Vauaghan will rack up runs in early season and fill the void again?

The Stewart/Gilchrist effect on international wicket-keepering continues as Prior - a decent no.6 bat is preferred to any number of far superior wicket-keepers.

Very difficult for selectors but must be disheartening for half a dozen good glovemen around the counties: Foster, Read etc.

Windies triumph delights Bolt 10:48am on 10 Feb 2009 Realistically, Bell can't have any more lives left, so in comes Shah, and Monty didn't follow-up on his wickets in the arm-up match, so continues to look fairly non-threatening, so maybe Swann deserves another chance after a good start in Tests.

Colly is still capable of a great innings despite his inconsistency, and Sidey is hopefully just short of match practice and form, although maybe Anderson might be worth a go, possibly instead of Harmy, who still isn't finding any of the world-beating form that he had all those years ago.

And the frustrations of Flintoff, regularly bowling well, but never gets any wickets?? Showing some fight with the bat at least, alone in turning a potentially barrel-scrapingly bad, embarrassing lowest total ever into a fairly atrocious final total.
