Microsoft: There's a buzz about Bing 5:02pm on 31 Jul 2009 Whilst searching for Pound v Euro clearly ought to work, a search for "Pound Euro" on both sites immediately returns the exact information that you're searching for.
BT and the iPlayer 4:03pm on 10 Jun 2009 The BBC isn't getting a "free ride". In common with every other content provider hosting every other website in the world, they're simply making content available to Internet users from their own datacentres, often at great cost. It's the end user, the BT broadband customer, that is paying BT for the {priviledge, right} (delete as appropiate) to access this content on the terms of their own personal contracts. If BT is now finding that the bandwidth uses of the average user is no longer cost efficient, this is a problem that BT is having with its customers, rather than content providers on the Internet. Perhaps this means that customers should be expected to pay more for their connection? The trend for more bandwidth isn't specific only to users of iPlayer, and isn't something likely to soon be reversed.

Whatever the solution, asking the BBC to pay BT for content that they host would set a dangerous precedent for the Internet as a whole. I'm sure that Google also places a strain on the network infrastructure. Should they also be expected to pay BT extra for this? Couldn't this just end up being extended infinitely, with me being unable to host an SSH server on my local machine without having to pay BT for "my share" (however small) of the costs?
Speed Diary: Day One 1:23pm on 18 Feb 2009 I presume that Virgin's 50Mb service is still subject to traffic shaping? This seriously turned me off of their 20Mb service, and will continue to do the same to this even if it were priced reasonably.
Facebook - still in fashion. 7:32pm on 09 Oct 2008 Despite being a moderately tech-savvy student with a Twitter account; Facebook remains very much my social networking hub of choice. Why? Because it's what my peers all use (most of which haven't heard of twitter), and networking without anyone to network with just becomes redundant.

For me, Twitter is just a glorified update-Facebook-status-by-text application at the moment.
Freeserve and ten years of boom and bust 8:02pm on 22 Sep 2008 Freeserve was a great ISP at the time, and though the change it bought about was likely inevitable, Broadband Britain owes a reasonable debt to the company for how it reshaped its billing system.
And I still have an active .freeserve.co.uk email address. Even my somewhat embarrassing very early attempts at making a website as still live at their original addresses.
