Bitter recriminations at the Bridge 08:46am on 07 May 2009 To be honest, why is no-one talking about Ballack. Yes Drogba was a disgrace but that sort of behaviour is nothing new from him. But Ballack's actions were reprehensible. The papers have largely ignored this, at one point his arm was around the referee's throat.

This action was the sort of spectacle that puts people off football, thinking it's a game played by a bunch of thugs, and despite the injustices that Chelsea suffered, they acted like just that.
England future brighter with Harmison back 5:40pm on 13 Aug 2008 First things first, I was one of the people who was in the anti-pietersen as captain camp. I didn't believe he had the experience. But he has to be skip to gain experience.

Howeve we can't glorify this victory as a breakthrough, view it in isolation as a game where the saffers appear.

Now is not the time to judge pietersen but ten test matches or so down the line.

The problem with the England team.... Well, firstly what was the point of the schofield review, its left us nowhere. We need to start from the top down, simply put if we lose more test series against the top sides then the selectors and McClaren (Moores) must go.

As for the team, Strauss, much as I used to rate him has to go. We need the r/l combo for openers or just a blend of attack and defense (Cook). As for who answers on a postcard, though i'd give Key a punt.

Bell, there's no point saying it. Over the whole summer he still averaged less than Colly.

Colly, who i clearly rate given my net handle was in woeful form but (i don't believe should have been recalled for edgbaston as he didn't get back to CC and get runs- selectorial consistency?) performed admirably and looked after pietersen our best batsman in the last two tests.

Flintoff's workload and batting is a worry, how about goochie and boycott work on it with him and leave him out of the odi's to save him for the ashes.

Broad, who i rate, still needs a full season of CC to work on his bowling. Anderson was better than i thought but his average is still a problem. Jonesy for India.

But i do think the criticism of Panesar is harsh, yes his fielding and batting has tailed off. But he had the best average and usually always is economical. Best spinner in England. But why can't the England captains get behind him, Vaughan handled him awfully and KP wasn't hugging him the whole game like Big Steve. Panesar needs more support from the set up if he is to perform.

Arguably the person who handled Monty the best was Strauss who was my pick for India.

Graham Gooch's England ratings 4:25pm on 11 Aug 2008 Not Swann, surely Swann is one of those cult of personality players. 'He's a good guy to have on tour' is not a good enough reason to play him, why not be bold and blood Rashid.
Graham Gooch's England ratings 4:00pm on 11 Aug 2008 Does anyone think Bell is flattered by a seven, this series was another one that would be the making of him. Fair play on the 199 at Lords (flat track?) but 133 runs over the other six innings, I make that an average of just over twenty. Not good enough, especially for number three.
Pietersen revels in his coronation 6:27pm on 04 Aug 2008 How long before Flintoff is laid up with the amount of overs we keep putting him through. You also have to worry about Anderson's back given his action. That said, he seriously needs to improve his average- 35. The aussies are hardly quaking. Especially given his average over there in 06/07- nearly 80 if i remember.

Agreed with the bowling unit idea of 6-7, play bowlers according to conditions. Though Simon Jones should be a shoo-in.

Agreed on Sidey, seems to have lost the nip he had. Isn't it funny though, he has a facet joint problem in the back like Hoggy,yet he still gets another chance, what about hoggy. Sixth all time best bowler, he's bowling the same pace as Sidey is, so why not.

We need twenty wickets in a match, remember the seven fer in SA, India and Australia. He is by far our best overseas bowler and when the conditions are right, he'll still get a few.

Pietersen revels in his coronation 5:32pm on 04 Aug 2008 Does anyone find it strange that Vaughan had to fall on his sword, yet Moores, Miller and the selectorial panel have really taken no heat. Moores has overseen losses to Sri Lanka, India, South Africa. The big teams. England have regressed and perhaps his position should be questioned. As should Miller's 'Patto-gate' selection. Bring back Graveney at this point.

Also, there's been a shadowplay in the ECB halls of power. Isn't it strange Pietersen was at the Stanford/ Champions Trophy conference? Almost like he was being lined up for the role.

Dead cert that he doesn't go to the IPL now.
