Queues or no queues 11:30am on 22 Sep 2008 I agree that the BBC has a responsibility to supply news, but this responsibility goes hand-in-hand with serving the licence-payers to the best of the BBC's ability. Reporting the formation of two queues at HBOS branches would have been to exaggerate the importance of the queues and almost certainly trigger a run on HBOS. I know of at least two people who were watching the BBC carefully after the rumours of a take-over surfaced, ready to go online and withdraw their money from HBOS at the first sign of a run. Of course, you could only see the queues and had no means of knowing how many HBOS customers went online to withdraw their money. In the circumstances I think you made the right call.
Which sports would you add to the Games? 1:48pm on 09 Aug 2008 How would free-diving be judged if not by a panel of judges using subjective criteria? No to that one, as well as all the other subjectively judged events.
What would I add? A 100% total news blackout and *no* TV coverage except on a special 'Olympic' channel (it can show repeats when there are no Olympics on, just like all the other channels). It's only Day 2 and I'm fed up with it all already. 2012 can't come slowly enough.
Bright future predicted for Apple 09:02am on 23 May 2008 I've used Macs fort about 15 years. They have got a lot worse in past five or six years. In that time I've bought three new Macs, and every one has had a problem with the power supply when it was just out of guarantee. The Apple-supplied software is pretty dreadful (iCal is especially bad) and I could fill a book with all the websites which will only work with the latest IE (but to mention two, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Ebay both give me problems).
When my mother was planning to get her first computer I advised her against buying a Mac. When I buy a new computer, I might well buy a Windows machine (although comments like that from timlinbob do make me hesitate).
